Blair opposes death penalty for Saddam
DAILY TELEGRAPH: Tony Blair has joined other EU countries in asking Iraq not to execute Saddam Hussein.

Mr Blair said the conviction of the former Iraqi leader was a reminder of his regime’s “barbaric brutality”.

He told his monthly press conference in Downing Street that the Government was “against the death penalty, whether it is Saddam Hussein or anybody else”. Blair opposes execution of Saddam

"“So for purely ethical reasons, Saddam Hussein should not suffer the death penalty,” he said. “But above all, you also have to think that the situation in Iraq is excessively worrying and we are on the brink of civil war.” ~ Phillipe Douste-Blazy, French foreign minister.

Now, there's a disingenuous statement! Ethical reasons? I think Saddam deserves the same ethical consideration he gave to the tens of thousands of people he slaughtered. Regardless, this is a matter for the Iraqi government to decide.

If the EU does prevail I like the idea of a contest deciding which head of state will get to share a double bungalow in Sweden with Saddam when they retire. Tony Blair gets my vote.

The dictator should have been executed in the same fashion as his Romanian friend Nicolas Ceausescu.

Of course! That would have been the very best way to deal with him. That way there would have been little, or no, fall out. This way, whatever we do will be wrong!
