YNET: Muslim world newspapers filled with articles slamming pope’s remarks; ‘it is clear that such remarks only contribute to the fueling of the fire raging between Islam and the West,’ op-ed published in al-Sharq al-Awsat saysMark Alexander
The recent remarks made by Pope Benedict XVI on Islam are threatening to ignite the entire Muslim world.
Op-Eds published in the Arab newspapers slammed the pope even after the Vatican’s apology.
The most extreme opinion was voiced by Hani Pahas in the London-based Arabic-language daily newspaper Al-Hayat, who wrote “the pope’s comments may lead to war; we fear that the pope’s statements may lead to a war that we, Muslims and Christians alike, are trying to prevent through dialogue between East and West. The Pope is looking for interfaith dialogue. The reaction of the clerics and the masses shows that no dialogue is possible.
I think that Pope Benedicy XVI knows this very well. He is well-versed on Islam: He has a profound and thorough understanding of the religion.
Instead Muslims want a monologue in which they tell non-Muslims what they CAN say about Islam and what they DO in regard to Muslims.
This is the problem; and it is a problem that most Westerners have yet to wake up to.
The reaction also proves the Pope's point: Muslims need to find an alternative to violence and should be able to talk among themselves and with others on this earth to find it.
With this one quotation, the very erudite Pope has proved his point. Muslims have played into his hands!
That they are contemplating war because of a few words by a Christian religious leader is absurd, insane, but thorougly Muslim.
They know only violence. Reason is not in their make-up.
If Muslims want non-Muslims to show respect, they must realize that respect is a two-way street.
How can one get Muslims to accept this when they refer to us, so derisively and so harshly, as INFIDELS?
Where is the respect for non-Muslims? Where is the tolerance for non-Muslims and dissenting Muslims?
There is none! Period!
And this reaction by clerics and the masses gives the lie to the claim that "Islam is a religion of peace". They might as well own up to it and stop pretending as the cat is out of the bag. (Sorry for the cliché.)
Islam, as you and I know, is not, never has been, and never will be a 'religion of peace'.
George Mason (PBUH):
It was really disheartening to wake up today to the news that the Pope had caved in to the sand savages. His quotation of the Byzantine emperor was first off just a quotation, but the quotation happens to be true. Muhammad and Islam are evil through and through. Apologizing for the truth hurts only the good.
I understand what you mean; but I really don't think he has retracted what he said at all. Has he not apologized to the Muslim world for causing distress and pain? But I have seen no reference to his saying that what the emperor said was false.
There is another issue. Muslims have picked up the 20th century technique of loud-mouthed activism from Europe and America. They are exploiting it to the limit. Every time someone who knows the truth caves in to these Islamic irrationals, it strengthens the irrationalists and makes our jobs that much harder for the future.
How true!
Another point is the one Eleanor just raised about how does one "dialogue" with Islamists. To rephrase that a bit, how does one "reason" with any who reject reason? Surely no one at this point will accuse Islamists of using reason, so the answer becomes: one does not spend any time trying to reason with those who reject reason. Once reason has been rejected, there is just one means of interaction left, and that is physical force. In this case, the Islamists set the terms by using and requiring the counter-use of force with them. It is fruitless and foolish to expect reason from them. The hard-core are dedicated to force, and the "moderates" are too frightened of their shadows to resist, thus becoming passive supporters of the hard-core.
As you so eloquently say: Where reason fails, force must follow.
We in the West must stand up to these Islamothugs and take no more lip from them or anything else. It is time to make them dance instead of the way it has been going.
Indeed! By the way, I like that term, "Islamothugs"! That sums it up very succinctly.
Russell's Ghost:
Could it be that Muslims will start attacking Catholic Churches? The answer is most likely, Probably!
It's highly unlikely to be the other way, is it?
All this along with the Cartoon Intifada, just point to who are the peaceful ones and who are the violent ones.
Yep! There's NO DOUBT about that!
Eleanor, Excellent post. The VERY LAST THING MUSLIMS WANT IS THE TRUTH TOLD ABOUT ISLAM; to do so would be far too devastating to their faith. So rather than enter into a rational dialogue, they bitch, moan, whine and cry for respect. They do not refute the charges, rather they attempt to involve us in a flim-flam game intended to divert our attention from their barbaric behavior and their barbaric religion. No one could ever say that Islam is a religion of peace and keep a straight face as it is MANIFESTLY untrue. That is no one but politicians who don't have a clue as to what to do about it and continue to sell their own integrity in order to buy votes. Once again, Eleanor, very well said!
Yes, USIP, it is a very, very good post!
They already declared their holy war against the rest--some 1400 years ago. And they've been re-declaring it ever since.
Yes, Always, so what's new? Plus ça change, plus c’est la même chose.
