Get tough on immigration, say the people!
THE public wants far tougher immigration policies, an Ipsos Mori poll for The Sunday Times has found, writes Isabel Oakeshott.

The research reveals that opinion on immigration is hardening dramatically, with three-quarters of the population calling for far stricter limits on immigrant numbers.

Almost half the population has serious doubts that allowing foreigners to settle in Britain is good for the country. Public wants much harsher immigration policy, says poll

Is the UK population finally getting their backs up? If so it's about time! Westerners on both sides of the pond are tired of the inconvenience and extra expense of putting up with these people who don't want a part of us.

This is not surprising. The only ones who really hope to gain from increased immigration are the dishonest, pandering politicians (show me even ONE that isn't..). It is about time that people who care about their children's and grandchildren's future make their voices heard and put a stop to this disgusting pandering.

You've probably heard about this story here in the States.

Excerpt:

CHICAGO — Immigration enforcement officers do not plan to enter a church where a single mother sought sanctuary rather than submit to deportation to Mexico, a government official said Friday.

But Elvira Arellano, 31, and her supporters say only a stay of deportation will ensure that she and her 7-year-old son, an American citizen, are not forcibly removed from the Adalberto United Methodist Church.

"The situation doesn't change," Arellano said in Spanish.

Arellano has been living in the church since Tuesday, when she was supposed to surrender to authorities for deportation.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials had said they would apprehend Arellano at a time and place "of their choosing" and that nothing prevented them from going into the church.

But on Friday, a government official close to the case said immigration agents have decided against entering the church to remove Arellano....

A dangerous precedent is being set.

The voters here are crying out for stricter enforcement of immigration laws, but our so-called elected representatives just don't give a damn.

eleanor - Did you note the first 5 comments after that article you linked to, all the usual sneering condescension we have come to expect from the postmodernist, Gruaniad crowd, with the obligitory oppressed muslim commenting just to give it that touch of authenticity; predictable I guess. We will have to endure a lot more of that before we can break the back of political correctness, but break it we will, muslims have seen to that.
