Britain reverting to tribalism!

"The government is aware that society is fragmenting into tribes - but if they are talking about creating common values for different faith groups, what are they?" - Munira Mirza, multiculturalism researcher [Source: The BBC]
British society is facing challenges that threaten its record on uniting ethnic groups, says Communities Secretary Ruth Kelly

Tensions between people of different ethnic groups and faiths in British society must be tackled, says Communities Secretary Ruth Kelly.

Ms Kelly launched a Commission on Integration and Cohesion, calling for a "new and honest" debate on diversity. UK 'must tackle ethnic tensions'
The full text of Communities Secretary Ruth Kelly's speech launching the new commission to look at how to counter tensions between people of different ethnic groups and religions. In full: Ruth Kelly speech
Ruth Kelly, in her speech, stated that she believes that Britian’s diversity is a huge asset to our country – economically, culturally, and socally.

She stated that immigration had helped transform the economy: it had supported growth and had boosted productivity. She went on to say that immigration had helped enrich our cultural life; and migrant workers had been vital to supporting our public services.

She added that in the government’s attempt to avoid imposing a single British identity and culture, she asked the question if we have ended up with some communities living in isolation of each other, with no common bonds between them.

She is setting up a commission to look into the problems.

She went on to say that the UK needed a “controlled, well managed [sic] system of immigration that has clear rules and integrity to counter exploitation from the far right”.

She rejected totally that faith schools – which are burgeoning here – are bad for the UK. She said that it was important to offer “choice”.

I should like to say the following…

I should like someone to show me how all this immigration and diversity has been a “huge asset” to the UK. It seems to me that the UK was doing pretty well before the advent of mass immigration. The UK used to be homogenous and well-integrated. There was already a great diversity in the UK. Look at the English, the Scots, the Irish, the Welsh, the Cornish, etc. We survived well without Islamic culture infiltrating our society.

But what is equally galling is that this mass immigration has been allowed to go on without consulting the people. This is an insult to democracy – the system of government whose virtues these very same people espouse.

If immigration has helped to transform the economy, it certainly hasn’t helped the cause of lowering taxation. Because of immigration, ever-increasing amounts of money have to be thrown at the security services in order to keep the British safe from “Islamic terrorism” and the jihad.

Not everything in an economy can be, or even should be, measured in terms of economic growth. Perhaps it is time people realized that ever-increasing economic growth can impose too high a price on the community as a whole. Businessmen should not be allowed to run the system!

That migrant workers may be vital to support our public services is an indictment on the economic policies of successive governments. Our leaders – past and present – should have seen these problems coming, and should have done all in their power to encourage an increase in the birthrate. But what has it done? Sweet Fanny Adams!

She admitted that the government had attempted to avoid “imposing a single British identity and culture” on the people. Well, now the truth is coming out! This is the very thing they should have been doing: They should have been encouraging homogeneity. How on earth can a country function as a homogenous whole when such diversity is encouraged. This flies in the face of the American “melting pot” theory – a theory that worked so well for the States for so long.

She has also rejected the idea that faith schools, the type of schools which are being encouraged in this country, are so detrimental to integration. If children are taught separately, especially when they are taught values diametrically-opposed to the values of the country as a whole, then we are most certainly encouraging tribalism, and we are shoring up colossal problems for ourselves for the future.

Little wonder that Munira Mirza, a multiculturalism researcher, has stated that British society is fragmenting into tribes! And the process of fragmentation into tribes will continue unabated until something is done about absurd government policies. Verily, I say unto you: Tony Blair and his government have been nothing short of a disaster, a catastrophe, for this country. It is high time for him to resign and hang his head in shame!

Yes, Mussolini. They'll blame the far-right, all right. The BIG question is this: Is the far-left any better than the far-right? After all, it's the far-left that has got us into this bloody mess. Maybe it will take a far-right government to take the measures to solve this crisis. After all, who else will have the balls? (By the way, Thatcher was pretty far right; so one isn't necessarily talking of extremists here.)

Civil war coming soon in England, I'd say.

I just hope the Anglo-Saxon tribe wins.

This woman Ruth Kelly really takes the biscuit.

I just love statements like "immigration had helped enrich our cultural life", yet I challenge her to give one single example of the 'enrichment', especially to the broad masses of indiginous British people.

I happen to know that Miss Kelly lives in a very affluent part of Bolton, and has just opposed the building of a block of apartments on land in that area, perhaps she is afraid of her own particular neighbourhood becoming 'enriched'?

If all the elected politicians can do is to trot out rhetoric without any basis in fact then how is the problem to be addressed if it isn't acknowledged?

This nation has been left in deep shit, let's not dress it up any other way, and the only way to resolve matters is to admit to, and face up to the problem.

She does indeed!

Like you, I'd like just ONE example. It's all a load of cobblers! Unless, of course, one calls the local 'shawarma house' and enrichment of society!

I happen to know that Miss Kelly lives in a very affluent part of Bolton, and has just opposed the building of a block of apartments on land in that area, perhaps she is afraid of her own particular neighbourhood becoming 'enriched'?

Well, isn't that just what one would expect? Such people don't have to live with the masses. They drop other people in the shit, not themselves!

If all the elected politicians can do is to trot out rhetoric without any basis in fact then how is the problem to be addressed if it isn't acknowledged?

They won't acknowledge it because they know the shit will hit the fan if they do; and, further, they don't have the courage to take the necessary Draconian steps to rectify the situation.

This nation has been left in deep shit, let's not dress it up any other way, and the only way to resolve matters is to admit to, and face up to the problem.

I agree with you WHOLEHEARTEDLY! Very deep shit, too! And I, for one, am sick of the stench.

Mark - Just so you know that Europe isn't having all the multicultural fun: remember the Bible warning about the separation into groups unintelligible groups? The same phenomenon is occurring on North America. Among the game players: Québec Separatists, MECHistas (Mexican separatists) in the American Southwest, Muslims in North America (Michigan), White Identity Groups in Idaho as well as various "Native American" groups that want to wander the continent. North America above the Mexican border is becoming a seething hodgepodge of nine "nations", dilineated along cultural lines. An invasion of millions of recent Hispanic immigrants are added to the mix for fun and games. We do live in ineresting times.

Mark - Oh, I forgot to mention the various Black American groups that also want to form a homeland. And, of course, other ethnic groups are starting to get restless...

We hear almost exactly the same shit here. I'm using the strong work because that's what this leftism is.

Tribalism in England? It's unreal, surreal. But I can see that it's going to happen, and not only in England.

And this dissolution of Western civilization is absolutely avoidable! Yet our leaders don't have what it takes to preserve our way of life.

Is it already too late? I fear so.

This may sound funny, but it is true. I had to take a writing test
for the Federal government. I found the best way too study the effective use of punctuation was to read your book and the rules of grammar at the same time.

I do not think I passed as only 15% of applicants pass. However, studying your writing mechanics gave me a fighting chance.

How amusing! How flattering! How novel! How pleasing!

It gives me great pleasure to hear this. Naturally, I sincerely hope that you are in that 15% who passed.

Please let me know when the results come out. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for you.

Well, Bush and Blair aren't working together for nothing.

Bush and Blair, and all that surround them, are cowards. I have reassessed why Bush and Blair kept uttering the obvious falsehoods after 9/11 and other atrocities: It's because they are COWARDS! They are afraid to say the truth, because they haven't got the guts to face up to the consequences. They would rather Western civilization perish instead. Bush is the worst president in living memory; and Blair is the worst prime minister. Both of them should be put out to graze!

Tribalism in England? It's unreal, surreal. But I can see that it's going to happen, and not only in England.

It's happening; and it will continue to happen for as long as nothing is done to reverse this trend.

And this dissolution of Western civilization is absolutely avoidable! Yet our leaders don't have what it takes to preserve our way of life.

No they don't have what it takes. They are COWARDS! Make no mistake about it.

Is it already too late? I fear so.

It wouldn't be too late. But the 'R' word and the 'D' word need to be brought into our vocabulary in order to solve this problem. There is no other way out. But these shits that lead us won't have the spunk to utter these words, let alone the courage to pass such legislation.

These pups are fiddling around with anti-smoking legislation and other such inane nonsense, impinging on people's freedoms, when all about them is crumbling. It's what is generally known as "fiddling while Rome burns".

Mark this may sound funny, but it is 100% true. A sentence is like a machine. The more parts a machine
has the more dificult it becomes to operate. Thus a series of passages with seventeen word sentences is easier to punctuate than a series of forty words sentences.

Moreover, the mechanics of sentence constuction are displayed
in classic form in your book. I practiced creating my own sentences
with your construction models. After five days of practice, the placement of commas became second nature.

I will let you know the test results. If I pass this test there may be a flood of immitators in VT.

Beakerkin:

Sorry to display my ignorance, but what's 'VT'? Is that the name of your department, or something?

By the way, if you don't mind my telling you, there should be a comma in that sentence. It should read:

If I pass this test, there may be a flood of immitators in VT.

Or it could be written without a comma thus:

There may be a flood of immitators if I pass this test.

I really hope you don't mind my pointing this out to you.

Beakerkin:

It has just occurred to me that VT is the abbreviation for Vermont. Is this what you meant?

VT is the abreviation for Vermont.
I am not bothered by corrections, as it is a valuable learning techique.

Moderation is NOT going to win the war against Islam.

The left have got us into this mess. Now we need the right to get us out of it.

But my fear is that this situation is a breeding ground for extremism on the right, just as poverty is the breeding ground for extremism on the left - communism.

Mark said...

Mussolini:

I'm not sure I quite follow what you say. Are you for the left or the right. From my understanding, you are for the left, which to me is abhorrent.

I can speak better for Britain than for America, of course; but in my country, the left have created a lot of problems. For example, the welfare state is the darling of the left. And look what a mess that's in.

"The best two options this country has is either an extreme right president who will bring a civil war of cleansing to America, or a far left president who will wage a dirty war internationally. The former would stall the international situation and probably win here at home. The latter would win the war against Islam in both places."

The first past of this is clear to me; but the second part, the part about the far left president being able to bring about the best solution, is totally unintelligible to me. Please explain.

The slimy Inayat Bunglawala seems to have disturbed a hornets' nest.

"The slimy Inayat Bunlawala" indeed!

I have been following this thread. They really are laying into him. It is surprising, given the fact that the article was written in the Guardian, of all papers; but maybe people are beginning to wake up after all.

Lay into him! He talks crap; and he deserves all he gets.

By the way, why not try and get some of those animated commentators over to this site. They'd be more than welcome over here.

Thanks for this explanation.

We need another right-wing government here in the UK, too. Mrs Thatcher's government was the last one we had to speak of. John Major, the man who came after her, was a bland figure. Then, of course, came our Tone. A pathetic prime minister, if ever there was one! He has allowed all this to fester. History will not be kind to him!
