This is very sad news for Ayaan, very sad news for her fans, and very sad news indeed for the future of Europe! Isn't Europe simply capitulating to the Muslims, instead of showing grit and determination. Shame on the Dutch!

I came to Holland in the summer of 1992 because I wanted to be able to determine my own future. I didn’t want to be forced into a destiny that other people had chosen for me, so I opted for the protection of the rule of law. Here in Holland, I found freedom and opportunities, and I took those opportunities to speak out against religious terror."Hirsi Ali herself, meanwhile, has announced her intention to come to the United States to work with the American Enterprise Institute. Europe’s loss is America’s gain, but this is no occasion for rejoicing by Americans; Hirsi Ali’s ejection from Holland will before too long be seen as one significant step closer to the extinguishing of the light not only in that country, but in all of Europe." - Robert Spencer, May 18, 2006 FrontPageMagazine
In January 2003, at the invitation of the VVD party, I became a member of parliament. I accepted the VVD’s invitation on the condition that I would be the party’s spokesman for the emancipation of women and the integration of immigrants.
What exactly did I want to achieve?
First of all I wanted to put the oppression of immigrant women — especially Muslim women - squarely on the Dutch political agenda. Second, I wanted Holland to pay attention to the specific cultural and religious issues that were holding back many ethnic minorities, instead of always taking a one-sided approach that focused only on their socio-economic circumstances. Lastly, I wanted politicians to grasp the fact that major aspects of Islamic doctrine and tradition, as practiced today, are incompatible with the open society.
Now I have to ask myself, have I accomplished that task? Ayaan Hirsi Ali Press Statement on Resignation from Parliament
Holland has for some time now been celebrated, or notorious, as a land where anything goes, but now the Dutch have finally discovered that there are limits. Ayaan Hirsi Ali, the courageous Dutch Parliamentarian who has drawn death threats for her outspoken criticism of women’s rights in Islam and unrestricted Muslim immigration into Europe, has resigned from Parliament and will leave the Netherlands. Dutch immigration minister Rita Verdonk has brought this about by suddenly deciding to press the fact -- which has actually been public knowledge for years, and has never caused controversy before -- that the Somalia-born Hirsi Ali lied in her request for asylum in the Netherlands was grounds to strip her of her Dutch citizenship.Mark Alexander

Mussolini:
It seems that way, doesn't it?
You see, the politicians, as you well know, are craven and spineless. History will be very unkind to them. But then, it might not, since if Islam is our future, then all will be viewed in a different light anyway - in an Islamic light! Sad, isn't it?
This lady is one of my heroines. She is the ideal immigrant, and I hope she becomes American. Her mind and her fire will alarm every Muslim in America, which will be gratifying to witness. I will want to do everything I can to elevate her profile before the awakening public.
Sadly, "mussolini" is so right about the advance of Islam here. However, I want to modify "convert or die" to reflect my sentiment about saving my country: "YOU convert, or YOU DIE!" And, that conversion is apostacy.
Fear is the most powerful emotion of human existence; it is the most instant for a reason, because mans primitive existence often placed him in positions of great danger, from which immediate action would be required in order to survive. For a clear analogy think of the gazelle on the African plain, suddenly confronted with the prospect of becoming a lion’s next meal break, in order to survive, instant action is required. It has been a long time since man was in perpetual danger from the animal world. We live our comfortable lives in prosperity, comfort and peace, well at least most of the time. The only real threat presented to us is the predatory nature of other men. When protected in the arms of a strong, vibrant and healthy society, we live lives of comfort and pleasure, oblivious to all external dangers. But what happens when that strength weakens with age and dissolution, as in the aging dominant male lion of the pride, a weakness is perceived and the hopeful young male aspirants begin to circle.
If fight or flight are not the only options on the table, what to do, if given too many choices, fear clouds the mind with confusion. What about if an extended time factor is involved. What happens when the impending threat of violence hangs over your head for a prolonged period of time. Worse, what happens when you are one individual, with no means of affecting events swirling around you. Well, if you are human, you seek a strong authority figure for safety and protection, or you seek comfort in numbers, the school of fish defense. But what happens when the authority figure lacks the qualities required of genuine leaders, worse, what happens when the chosen leader is exposed as a liar, a fraud, a charlatan, or simply a bag of wind. Stir into this mix 80 plus years of an insidious, subversive philosophy, designed specifically to erode the confidence in the moral and ethical fabric of a society; then you have a condition where, many are wandering around, lacking the self confidence necessary for a human being to overcome that strong overpowering emotion of fear.
What we are witnessing now, amongst the ruling elites of Europe, is the dawning of realisation of the folly of their utopian plans. That they have chosen denial as their course, is hardly surprising, it is after all, the least line of resistance, at least from their perspective. Demonisation of the messenger is nothing new in the annuls of human experience. There are of course, some who have already sold out to the enemy, thinking themselves quite safe, we shall see, though I have never heard of a crocodile with a compassionate heart. Some, deluding themselves that this is just another storm which will blow over, feel that just sitting tight for a while, is all that is needed. Some that simply cannot see the danger ahead, after all, since when has a great empire arisen out of a collection of total failures: but then again, since when in the pages of history have a group of people, so lacking in accomplishments, so indolent as to abstain from labor , as being beneath their dignity, so lacking in abilities, been the recipients of such vast sums of wealth, all the while seated in their comforts, as have the Arabs of the middle east, the source of all our danger.
The silliness and confusion, bubbling up from the moonbats, fools, frauds and charlatans of humanity, is nothing but fear, roaring at the wind, for it knows that soon it will have to confront it’s worst nightmare…fear itself.
Consider for a moment, the academic in Paris, the playwright in London, the pseudo professor in Princeton or Columbia. After a life of pampered ease, with little to shake your complacency, and surround by sycophants, a hippy settled into comfortable middle age, well rewarded for your endeavors, at least so that you need not concern yourself with the mundanities of daily existence, living in secure surroundings, indulging in prognostications upon the meanings of existence without ever having actually existed within the worlds upon which you pontificate; in short theorizing in the abstract; suddenly you are confronted with your worst nightmare, death comes stalking, you are confronted with ‘fight or flight’ for the very first time in your life, harsh reality has just kicked down the door. Fight, die, or become a slave, there is little else, except to deny, to seek anyone else to lash out at, because tomorrow, you will have to face your greatest fear…your own barren emptiness…your cowardice. Yes there are exceptions to this mindset amongst the anti war crowd, the genuine pacifists who are extremely rare, the subversive agents with their latent agendas, the terminally foolish, for who knows what camp they belong in, the sleepwalkers.
No wonder fear stalks the land, no wonder Ahmadinejad is smiling. The young predator smells the fear, the pickings will be easy, he thinks. The moral confusion bequeathed to us by the Marxist / postmodernists, is bearing bitter fruit. The angel of death stands ready and waiting, as the players and the hopefuls assemble themselves in anticipation.
“What joy it is when out at sea the storm winds are lashing the waters, to gaze from the shore at the heavy stress some other man is enduring. Not that anyone’s afflictions are in themselves a source of delight, but to realize from what troubles you yourself are free is joy indeed. What joy, again to watch opposing hosts marshaled on the field of battle when you have yourself no part in their peril! But this is the greatest joy of all: to possess a quiet sanctuary, stoutly fortified by the teachings of the wise, and to gaze down from that elevation on others wandering aimlessly in search of a way of life, pitting their wits one against another, disputing for precedence, struggling night and day with unstinted effort to scale the pinnacles of wealth and power. Oh joyless hearts of men! Oh minds without vision! How dark and dangerous the life in which this tiny span is lived away! Do you not see that nature is barking for two things only, a body free from pain, a mind released from worry and fear for the enjoyment of pleasurable sensations.” - Lucretius (note here that Lucretius was of the Epicurean school of philosophy, a rather serene pacifist approach to earthly existence, rejecting as folly the idea of romantic love, and other considerations of human endeavour…definitely not the movers and shakers of the world).
Sadly modern humanity has cast the wise men to the margins of the pages of history, for there would appear to be few in academia. And why we ever thought that we could find them in plentiful supply, within the ranks of actors and minstrels, leaves one to ponder on the nature of human stupidity; though I think professor C. Cipolla (sp?) has that one covered quite neatly in The theory of human stupidity
Whoops.. still didn't get it right. For professor Cipolla's excellent piece try this...

I guess the good news in that she's coming to the Washington, D.C., area.
Ayaan Hirsi Ali is being held to the letter of the law. But are those who will take down the Netherlands being held to such a standard?
I hope that this brave woman will be able to speak out here without Muslim activist-groups interfering with what she has to say. Also, I wonder how much coverage the media will give her.
There may be another Symposium on the West coast, later this year or earlier next. Perhaps Ayaan Hirse Ali will be able to speak there.
just another richard, enjoyed your post. Methinks you speak the truth and you may want to stop doing that; you may get into trouble.
Ah yes, the comfortable lives we live. Since WW2 people have been living the life of riley in the west and they don't want to think about any threats to this comfort. It's all too hard.
And from whence does this comfort come? Most don't think about it or care about it. As long as they can watch sport and their house price keeps rising - who cares? Who cares about Islam or Hirsi Ali?
We in the west are like a ship drifting with the engines off. The engines were powered by the philosophy and thinking of folks long dead. Unless the engines are restarted, one day the ship will stop.

I cannot worry about myself, for I have two sons, whose future will be bleak indeed, should we be so foolish as to wait upon our enemies connvenience. The tragedy is that this mess is brought upon us by the moral corruption, which we have allowed to infest the corridors of power; the weak minded lusters after power, who having no principle of their own, imagine that no one but a bufoon could care about anyone but themselves. This could all be advoided by men and women of principle, armed with resolution and fortitude to guide themselves and their respective populations, could have nipped these threats in the bud, but instead we have irresolution, and confusion, sending a signal of weaknes to the wolves, emmboldening them by the hour.
Just Another Richard:
This is an excellent piece, as ever! There is far too much for me to find the time to respond to. Suffice it to say that I agree with your wonderful analysis.
Lee Lion,
We in the west are like a ship drifting with the engines off.
Excellent analogy!
And the sharks are circling.
By the way, I have printed out the professor's thoughts. Ten pages in all! I shall read it when I find the time. Hopefully, over the weekend.
Thank you for that link.
Always:

Good news!

It's doubtful.

This will be a field day for CAIR!
There may be another Symposium on the West coast, later this year or earlier next. Perhaps Ayaan Hirse Ali will be able to speak there.
It would be good to be able to hear her speak there. I hope she's invited. Though I doubt that I shall be able to make it.
Leelion:

Yes, the truth often does land one in big trouble. People don't like to hear it!
Hopefully, JAR will be spared any problems.
Always:
I agree with you: It is a wonderful analogy.

You are a brave man. The world needs more brave men like you.
BTW, principled people are thin on the ground.

Yes, I like her very much, too. She'll be good for America.
Forrest:
God will not abandon the world to satan.
How can you be so sure? After all, He already has abandoned much of the Christian world to Satan! So many current Islamic countries were once Christian. Witness Egypt, Libya, Syria, the Lebanon, etc. Why didn't He keep Satan at bay in those countries? How can we be so sure that He won't abandon us in the same way as he so apparently abandoned the Egyptians, the Libyans, the Syrians, the Lebanese, etc?

Ha! the picture of me being percieved as a threat to the great and the good brings a chuckle to my soul.
I don't think the powers that be have too much to worry about me. By nature I am a loner, a quiet soul, just going about the daily struggle of existance, and it is a struggle, believe me. I have no affiliations, an individual in the truest sense of the word. A lone voice whispering in the breeze. On top of it all, I am cursed with Hobbes affliction, though I am trying to work on that! (yes, a cryptic puzzle for all but the most erudite)

You will enjoy the read, for the good professor uses humour to good effect. There is genius at work in this thesis.
Have a nice weekend.

Your description of yourself could be one of me! :-) Have you, perhaps, found a Doppelgänger across the water?
Now about Hobbes affliction: I presume you are talking of innocence and sin here; though I am not at all sure that I am "erudite" enough to undestand the crytic nature of it all! :-(
Please elucidate.
JAR:
I'm sure I will enjoy it. I hope you have a good weekend, too. Stop by again soon, when you can.

Food and circuses, leelion, food and circuses.
You know we really do delude ourselves that we are more cultured and civilised than those that went before. Our technological accomplishments blind us to the reality and commonality that is human existance.
Actually the line should be "bread and circuses" must remember to engage mind when pressing keys!
Forrest:
marcos: i can be sure that islam does not triumph because of what God says in the bible: especially his promises to israel! the jew is God's living testimony to his faithfullness.
That's all very well. But why didn't He help the Christians that lost their countries before us? You haven't answered that question for me. Please do. I'm intrigued.
Forrest:
That's QUITE a powerful petition you have there! One has to be a brave man to put one's name to it.
I'm surprised that you, such a religious man, want to nuke those people! How do you square that circle?
Just Another Richard:
You know we really do delude ourselves that we are more cultured and civilised than those that went before. Our technological accomplishments blind us to the reality and commonality that is human existance.
I certaianly do not delude myself. Where are the young who are so cultivated and cultured these days? What do they know about music and art and literature? They know plenty about technology; but technology alone a cultured person does not make! And what do these people know about Lebenskultur? (I love that German expression - an expression for which there is no real English equivalent.)
Forrest:
That's a very lucid argument. I understand it; though I do not necessarily agree with it (nor, incidentally, do I necessarily disagree with it). It's a viewpoint; and I respect it. It is certainly an interesting one. It's the viewpoint of a fundamentalist Christian, I guess.
Forrest:
Before I go any further. I LOVE the way you call me MARCOS!!! :-)
the bible does not teach pacifism in the face of evil doers.
I wholeheartedly agree! Unfortunately, many a Christian thinks otherwise. They come with the 'turn the other cheek' idea, and the 'love thine enemy' one, too. It's ridculous. Jesus was no wimp!
on the other hand evil doers: in this case islam must be dealt with severely. would you let a rapist break into your house and rape your wife and daughters? of course not, you would fight and defend them with your life if necessary.
You'll have no argument from me on that one, either.
for it is a matter of them or us: life or death! this should become abundantly clear to everyone in the coming years.
I believe it will.
of course realistically: will this happen? i don't know but i would support such a leader if he were to arise. g bush jr. sadly is not that man: he is not defending americans or the free world. he would rather sacrifice thousands of american lives, which he has done and lie to the american people and the world.
he's a mama's boy who only wanted to protect his father's honor by finishing the job in iraq the g. bush sr began. now he finds himself in a quandry that he can't get out of: establishing islamic states in afghanistan and iraq: multiplying exponentially the mujahadeen fighters! what a loser and a huge dissappointment to many many people.
Yes, I think you're right on this, too.
I already have a copy of that book.
Forrest:
hebrew (ivrit) is such a lovely language!
have you ever studied it, have you head it spoken?
magnificent!
"marcos" is the hebrew way of saying
"mark".
Isn't it also the Spanish way?
its funny that today while listening to an audio by craig winn: he quotes allah in the fifth surrah stating that he forbids moslems to study the
koran for if they did they would abandon their religion!
its probably the only honest statement allah ever said! lol
You're hilarious!
By the way: Never mind Craig Wynn! Have you read MY book yet?
From what you say, Forrest, I presume that you are not going to read it. Am I right in my assumption?
Yes, I have heart. And yes, I have courage, too. Indeed, I also have much experience with Islam. How much more do you need to convince you, especially that you were attracted to my site by my articles in the first place?
I hope you will read my book soon, so that you can give me an informed critique. I value your opinions, Forrest.
Forrest:
Go to your public library and get the public authorities to buy it for you. That way you can read my book and still keep your pennies! What could be simpler and cheaper than that? :-)

Yes, I recognised a kindred spirit.
Elucidate ...no no no, for t'would no longer be a puzzle. A clue, your first stab is wide of the mark (Ohhhh, nice pun).

Exactly!
The ship of fools sails blindly through a deadly storm. Corrupt politician's promise paradise, and deliver death, chaos and confusion.Who today, has the time and inclination to see the true motivation, behind the actions of those that seek our good offices in order to elevate themselves into positions of authority over us. How many of them whorship an ideology that most of us find totally abhorent, and therefore must couch their words in deceptive seductive inducements, in order to decieve us into placing our trust in them. How many, simply lust after power, for the opiate that feeds their wretched egos. A plague on all their houses.
We don't have time for wise minds anymore, what's more, we would resent their clear intellectual superiority over us, for after all, it goes against all our prevailing code of ethics...the rules of PC and all, are we not all equal now?
Just Another Richard:
How nice to find a "kindred spirit"!
Elucidate ...no no no, for t'would no longer be a puzzle. A clue, your first stab is wide of the mark (Ohhhh, nice pun).
Oh dear! Are you going to keep me guessing like that? If my first stab at it was so wide of the mark (yes, that was indeed a pun), then I have a lot of guesswork ahead!
Just Another Richard:

Yes, alas, we have witnessed all this before. I saw a photo of Blair and Bush this morning as they preened because Iraq's parliament had approved the cabinet nomination of PM Nouri Maliki, after many, many months of negotiations. Oh how proud they looked! Yet we'll see how long their faces will keep smiling! I fear that only fools would think the game is over in Iraq!

Very, very many (simply lust after power)! They want the power and the glory and the money that goes with it. Alas, they don't seem to want the responsibility of making TOUGH decisions, which should go with the appointments.
We don't have time for wise minds anymore, what's more, we would resent their clear intellectual superiority over us, for after all, it goes against all our prevailing code of ethics...the rules of PC and all, are we not all equal now?
Some people might think so by dint of self-delusion; but we are anything but!
What you say is sad; but sadly true!

I wouldn't worry about it too much, the answer is of no great moment.
On the prospects for the future, I'm with forrest on this one, I think Divine providence has it's purpose, though unknown to us, just as our existance is unknowable to an ant. I have a feeling that we are witnessing now a confluence of man's folly, the big showdown is coming. Pay no heed to the sneerers and the talking heads, for are they not exposed every day for the real truth of their follies.
Just Another Richard:

The big showdown certainly is coming. And the sooner the better!

I shan't. Be sure of that.

I seem to be on a roll these last few days. I should point out that I only write when the muse strikes, and the gaps in between can be quite long, but right now, it's flowing.
I've just written a piece on "the gramscian paradigm" A sort of parable on how it works, or a least part of it. By focusing on just one example it may become clearer to everyone, at least to those struggling to understand the flux of cultural pathways.
I don't want to just keep plonking stuff down on you, and it does not really pertain to this thread. Let me know your thoughts.
