Religious People Are Less Intelligent Than Atheists, Analysis of Over 63 Scientific Studies Stretching Back over Decades Concludes

THE INDEPENDENT: Study found 'a reliable negative relation between intelligence and religiosity' in 53 out of 63 studies

A new review of 63 scientific studies stretching back over decades has concluded that religious people are less intelligent than non-believers.

A piece of University of Rochester analysis, led by Professor Miron Zuckerman, found “a reliable negative relation between intelligence and religiosity” in 53 out of 63 studies.

According to the study entitled, 'The Relation Between Intelligence and Religiosity: A Meta-Analysis and Some Proposed Explanations', published in the 'Personality and Social Psychology Review', even during early years the more intelligent a child is the more likely it would be to turn away from religion.

In old age above average intelligence people are less likely to believe, the researchers also found. » | Rob Williams | Monday, August 12, 2013

Muslim Leader Denounces 'Islamophobic' France as Air Force Sergeant Accused of Planning Mosque Attack

THE INDEPENDENT: 23-year-old arrested over plot, as violent incidents rise

A Muslim religious leader has denounced France’s “climate of Islamophobia” after an air force sergeant with alleged links to the extreme right was placed under investigation for attempting to carry out a terrorist attack against a mosque near Lyon.

The 23-year-old, who was arrested at a military base last week, has been placed under investigation on charges including possessing a weapon with terrorist intent.

Islamophobic attacks have risen by between 35 and 50 per cent in France this year according to data from Muslim associations. The country is home to five million Muslims.

The French interior ministry said the sergeant is believed to be “close to the radical far right” and had allegedly planned to open fire on the mosque at Vénissieux in the Bordeaux region on Thursday last week, when Muslims celebrated the end of Ramadan. A rally was held outside the Vénissieux mosque yesterday to encourage solidarity with the local Muslim community. » | Anne Penketh | Tuesday, August 13, 2013

Muslim Staff Escape NHS Hygiene Rule

THE SUNDAY TELEGRAPH: Muslim doctors and nurses are to be allowed to opt out of strict hygiene rules introduced by the NHS to restrict the spread of hospital superbugs.

Female staff who follow the Islamic faith will be allowed to cover their arms to preserve their modesty despite earlier guidance that all staff should be "bare below the elbow".

The Department of Health has also relaxed rules prohibiting jewellery so that Sikh members of staff can wear bangles linked with their faith, providing they are pushed up the arm while the medic treats a patient.

The Mail on Sunday reported the change had been made after female Muslims objected to being required to expose their arm below the elbow under guidance introduced by Alan Johnson when he was health secretary in 2007.

The rules were drawn up to reduce the number of patients who were falling ill, and even dying, from superbugs such as MRSA and Clostridium difficile.

Revised guidance which relaxed the requirements for some religions was published last month. » | Sunday, August 11, 2013

Sochi Olympics: Russia Says No Discrimination for Gay Athletes

BBC: Russian officials say gay athletes competing in next year's winter Olympics will not face discrimination despite a controversial new law on gay propaganda, Russian media reported.

Such concerns were "completely unfounded", the interior ministry said, quoted by Interfax news agency.

Olympic committee chief Jacques Rogge recently asked Russia to clarify how the law might affect the Sochi games.

The law prescribes fines for providing information on homosexuality to minors.

Critics say its loose interpretation effectively hinders any kind of public gay rights event in Russia.

The ministry said that officials would act during the games - as at any other time - to protect children "from the propaganda of non-traditional sexual relations".

But it added that there would be no issue with "people who adhere to non-traditional sexual orientation but do not engage in these activities, nor stage any provocations, and take part peacefully in Olympic events together with everyone else".

The ministry said concerns over discrimination towards gay athletes at the games were "completely unfounded and unsubstantiated". » | Monday, August 12, 2013

Gay Men in Iran's Military Can Seek Exemption

AL MONITOR: Coming out as a gay man has severe consequences in Iran. Homosexuality is among the biggest taboos in Iran both on social and legal levels. The taboo transforms itself to a paradox however, if and when the issue of serving in the military arises.

Military service is mandatory for men and lasts two years. All healthy and able male high school graduates or drop-outs are mandated to serve in the military if they do not succeed in the University Entrance Exam. If they succeed and continue their education, they serve once they graduate.

During the eight years of the Iran-Iraq war, a number of more affluent families would go above and beyond to find ways around the military service; be it through bribery, undergoing attempts to be smuggled out of the country, inventing false pretenses of illness, or many other ways people created to escape the military service, attempting to fit in as exceptions so they could be excused.

The Iran-Iraq war ended 25 years ago, and since then, serving in the military has been accompanied by low risk and very little danger. Yet, most people are quite reluctant to serve the 24 months. Many families consider the two-year period a waste of time, while a less sizable group believes it to be a good learning experience for young men preparing to enter the real world.

The document — a card which is issued upon completion of a citizen’s two-year service — is golden: Without that card, an Iranian man cannot officially buy or sell anything, cannot participate in formal public sector activities, nor can he be employed by the government, or qualify to obtain a passport. Some companies in the private sector tend to refrain from recruiting men who have not served.

Gay men who prefer to refrain from serving in the military must undergo the required medical and mental evaluations prior to commencing the two-year experience. Should the examining officers or physicians come across any evidence of “queerness,” they refer the soldier-to-be to appropriate officials for further evaluation.

If the psychological diagnosis confirms the individual’s homosexuality, an official, permanent exemption is issued for him. More often than not, a thorough rectal exam follows the mental evaluation. The physician’s observations providing proof of occurred same-sex intercourse is then written formally and submitted to the military. In some cases, further detail-oriented exams come into play, so the decision-makers can be certain of the applicant’s “queerness," making sure they are genuine, not a false pretense to escape the service. » | Mehrnaz Samimi for Al-Monitor Iran Pulse | Sunday, August 11, 2013

Indian Clerics Tell Muslim Girls Not to Post 'Selfies' on Facebook

THE DAILY TELEGRAPH: Clerics in India have denounced "Facebook selfies" as un-Islamic and forbidden Muslim girls from posting pictures of themselves on social networks.

Two leading helplines for young Muslims seeking guidance have warned teenagers that in Islam the only men who should see their faces are close relatives and their husbands.

Their edict will be difficult to enforce within India's growing ranks of middle class Muslims among whom social networking is as popular as it is in the West.

Obituary: HRH Prince Friso of Orange-Nassau

THE DAILY TELEGRAPH: HRH Prince Friso of Orange-Nassau, who has died aged 44, was second in line to the Dutch throne until being excluded from the line of succession by his choice of a wife; for the past 18 months he had been in a coma after being buried by an avalanche at an Austrian ski resort.

In the summer of 2003 Prince Friso announced his engagement to Mabel Wisse Smit, a beautiful and intelligent blonde who was known for her work in the promotion of human rights. Soon afterwards, however, it was claimed that, 15 years earlier, she had been in a relationship with a Dutch mobster and international drug dealer called Klaas Bruinsma.

The claim was made by one of Bruinsma’s former bodyguards, who said that his boss and Mabel had been lovers — and that she had been the only woman allowed on board Bruinsma’s yacht. Miss Smit strenuously denied the allegations, saying that she had been merely an acquaintance of Bruinsma; she admitted that she had spent the night on his yacht on several occasions, but denied that there had been a sexual relationship, insisting that she had known him for only a few months and broke off contact after she found out how he made his money. They had, she said, shared a passion for sailing.

Miss Smit had been an expert on the Balkans at the UN, and promoted the cause of human rights for the Open Society Institute, funded by George Soros. She had been vetted by the Dutch secret service and approved as a suitable bride.

Shortly after becoming engaged, however, she issued a statement saying that she had known Bruinsma — who was shot dead in a gangland killing in 1991 — for a few months while she was a student, but had broken with him when she learned of “the practices he engaged in”. » | The Daily Telegraph | Monday, August 12, 2013

Unhealthy Lifestyles Will See British Children Die Before Their Parents

THE INDEPENDENT: Research from British Heart Foundation warns of health problems affecting a generation, from lack of exercise to dietary issues

The unhealthy lifestyles of today’s children could see them die younger than their parents because of heart disease, diabetes and other medical conditions, a new study has shown.

In a “wake-up call” to parents, schools and the Government, the British Heart Foundation (BHF) has worked with the University of Oxford to publish its first ever supplement dedicated solely to coronary heart disease statistics and causes among children and young people.

The study has found that with around 30 per cent of that group being overweight or obese, less than one in five children in the UK eating their five a day, and a minority doing recommended levels of daily exercise, the 50-year trend of reducing cardiovascular disease is set to be reversed.

BHF chief executive Simon Gillespie said: “These figures are a warning that many of our children are in grave danger of developing coronary heart disease in the future if they continue to live the same lifestyle.” » | Adam Withnall | Monday, August 12, 2013

Dutch Prince Johan Friso Dies After Skiing Accident Coma

Dutch prince Johan Friso, who went into a coma following a skiing accident in February 2012, has died, the government said on Monday.

"Prince Friso died from complications that arose as a consequence of the brain damage caused by oxygen deprivation following his skiing accident," the government said in a statement.

The prince, 44, was skiing off-piste in Lech, Austria, when he was buried in an avalanche. Rescuers pulled him from the snow, unconscious, 20 minutes later. He was resuscitated at the scene and flown to hospital, but remained in a coma for months.

Zanzibar Acid Attack: Hardline Cleric Surrenders to Police

THE SUNDAY TELEGRAPH: A hardline Islamic cleric wanted for questioning over the Zanzibar acid attack on two British teenagers handed himself in on Sunday as police faced criticism for their slow-paced investigations.

Detectives believe Issa Ponda may have inspired the attack on Katie Gee and Kirstie Trup, who remained in hospital being treated for their injuries last night.

Sheikh Ponda surrendered a day after he was injured during police attempts to arrest him on the orders of Tanzania's chief prosecutor.

He is under guard being treated in hospital and will be interrogated once doctors discharge him.

Miss Gee and Miss Trup, both 18 and from north London, were volunteering for at a Zanzibar nursery school when two men on a moped threw acid over them, wounding them on their faces, hands, legs, backs, necks and chests.

Six German Women Investigated over Auschwitz Crimes

THE DAILY TELEGRAPH: Six women who were guards at the Auschwitz death camp are being investigated on suspicion of complicity in mass murder, German authorities confirmed on Friday.

The women are among 50 former Auschwitz guards still living in Germany whose cases are being examined by the country's Central Office for the Investigation of National Socialist Crimes.

Thomas Will, an investigator at the Central Office, confirmed that the women were under investigation for allegedly aiding and abetting murder. The women are now in their 90s, Mr Will said. The female guards were assigned to women's barracks.

Earlier this year, German authorities launched a fresh attempt to bring surviving perpetrators of the Holocaust to justice, which has so far resulted in the arrest of alleged Auschwitz guard Hans Lipschis, 93.

Lipschis, who was arrested in Aalen, southern Germany, claims he was only a cook.

Sarah Ferguson Flies In from the Cold as Queen Invites Her to Stay

THE SUNDAY EXPRESS: The Duchess of York is spending the weekend with the Queen at Balmoral after being accepted back into the fold.

In an extraordinary comeback for the once-disgraced former wife of Prince Andrew, Sarah Ferguson is staying at the castle as if she was still part of the Royal Family.

Andrew, Sarah and daughters Beatrice and Eugenie flew to Aberdeen on Friday, hours after celebrating Beatrice’s 25th birthday at home in Royal Lodge, Windsor Great Park.

It is not the first time the Duchess has stayed at the Queen’s estate since her 1996 divorce – she was there in 2005 and 2008.

However, a royal insider revealed that on those occasions Sarah wasn’t invited to stay in the main castle, unlike this time.

Gay Muslims in Turkey: Torn between Religion and Sexuality

MALAY MAIL ONLINE: ISTANBUL, Aug 10 — “When I was a child, I was told that homosexuals would burn in hell,” said Ertugrul, a Muslim fighting for greater freedom for gays in a country where homosexuality remains taboo.

Ertugrul, who did not want to give his last name, is president of the group Muslims and Gays, which he says wants to “break taboos” in Muslim-majority Turkey, where gays are still subject to violence and abuse.

“There are still regions where people kill gays and lesbians to keep the honour of the family intact,” he said.

“For religious clerics, homosexuality is a test. If you succumb to temptation, you will go to hell. If you resist, you will be pardoned and go to heaven,” explained the 39-year-old, a practising Muslim.

Homosexuality and transsexuality are not illegal in Turkey but police regularly swoop — with or without authorisation — on parks, bars or hammams they believe gays frequent to check for prostitution.

People are then taken to police stations where officers check their identities and if they have a criminal record.

Critics say the checks are a way of putting pressure on the gay community. » | AFP | Saturday, August 10, 2013

Mike Huckabee: Muslims Depart Mosques Like 'Uncorked Animals,' Throwing Rocks, Burning Cars

THE HUFFINGTON POST: Mike Huckabee, former Arkansas GOP governor-turned-Fox News host and radio personality, tore into Islam earlier this week, using a recent terror threat that put United States embassies on high alert to suggest that the Muslims were "uncorked animals," encouraged to be violent by the religion itself.

Speaking on his radio program on Monday, Huckabee prefaced his remarks by saying that he understood it was "politically incorrect" to "say anything unkind about Islam." He then went on to suggest that Islamic teachings were to blame for recent unrest during the holy month of Ramadan.

"Can someone explain to me why it is that we tiptoe around a religion that promotes the most murderous mayhem on the planet in their so-called ‘holiest days,’" Huckabee said. "You know, if you’ve kept up with the Middle East, you know that the most likely time to have an uprising of rock throwing and rioting comes on the day of prayer on Friday. So the Muslims will go to the mosque, and they will have their day of prayer, and they come out of there like uncorked animals -- throwing rocks and burning cars." » | Nick Wing | The Huffington Post | Thursday, August 08, 2013

Matt Damon: 'Barack Obama Broke Up with Me

THE DAILY TELEGRAPH: Matt Damon, once one of President Barack Obama's staunchest Hollywood cheerleaders, has blamed the US leader for the souring of their relationship, saying: 'He broke up with me.

The movie star added that the pair "no longer see eye to eye," and that Mr Obama has "some explaining to do," particularly on the issues of drone strikes and fugitive National Security Agency leaker Edward Snowden.

The comments were the latest in a series of swipes from the "Bourne Identity" star which have highlighted an undercurrent of disillusionment with the president among some of his more liberal backers in the entertainment industry.

Damon, in an interview with Black Entertainment Television, was asked how he felt Mr Obama was doing in his second term, and replied: "He broke up with me. There are a lot of things that I really question. The legality of the drone strikes, these NSA revelations, are like, you know... Jimmy Carter came out and said we don’t live in a democracy. That’s a little intense when an ex-president says that.

"So, you know, he’s got some explaining to do, particularly for a constitutional law professor.”

The campaigning actor's criticism of Mr Obama began in his first term when Damon said that "a one-term president with some balls who actually got stuff done" might have been preferable. » | Nick Allen, Los Angeles | Saturday, August 10, 2013

Viewpoint: This Ramadan We've Shown Islam and Britishness Are Not Incompatible

THE GUARDIAN: Despite the attacks post-Woolwich, with events like the Big Iftar British Muslims have reached out to the wider community

This week British Muslims and Muslims across the world celebrated Eid al-Fitr. After a month of fasting, prayer and reflection there was a time to celebrate and enjoy family meals. Ramadan has been tough this year – not just because of the long, hot summer days, but because of the recent string of attacks on Muslim communities and the shadow of the terrible events of Woolwich in May.

Since the horrific murder of soldier Lee Rigby on the streets of London, we have seen bombs set off at mosques, a school targeted by arsonists, and a Somali community centre razed to the ground. A month earlier we saw the terrible murder of 82-year-old Mohammed Saleem in Birmingham, a horrific crime for which a man has been charged and which police are treating as an act of terrorism.

The reaction to these attacks among the British Muslim community was striking. Their response wasn't to retreat; it was to reach out. This Ramadan, hundreds of community iftars (evening meals, when the fast is broken) have been held across the country. They have united people of all faiths and none, many of whom have never been in a mosque before, breaking bread in order to break down barriers. Many of these were part of the Big Iftar, which culminated with the prime minister's visit to the Jamia Masjid in Manchester on Wednesday. » | Sayeeda Warsi | Sarurday, August 10, 2013

Danish Muslim Leader Who Fuelled Uproar about Prophet Muhammad Cartoons Now Says He Was Wrong and Paper Was Right to Print Images

MAIL ONLINE: Ahmad Akkari led protests against drawings to Lebanon, Egypt and Syria / Dispute over caricatures of Prophet Muhammad became international crisis / Lebanon-born Muslim leader, 35, now says the trip was 'wrong'

He was one of the most vocal critics of Danish newspaper caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad that sparked violent fury throughout the Muslim world.

But seven years on Muslim leader Ahmad Akkari has had an unexpected change of heart, declaring his decision to travel to Lebanon, Egypt and Syria to garner support for the ensuing protest was 'totally wrong'.

Lebanon-born Akkari, now 35, was the spokesman for a group of imams who led the outcry against the satirical drawings, and their tour helped to turn the dispute into an international crisis.

He now says the Jyllands-Posten newspaper had the right to print the cartoons.

His about-face has received praise from pundits and politicians in recent weeks, though some question his sincerity. It has also disappointed some in the country's Muslim minority who were deeply offended by the cartoons.

Dozens were killed in weeks of protests over the drawings that included violent attacks against Danish missions in Syria, Iran, Afghanistan and Lebanon.

Tiny Denmark found itself on a collision course with the Muslim world — something Akkari now regrets.

'I want to be clear today about the trip: It was totally wrong,' Akkari told The Associated Press this week. » | Kerry McDermott | Saturday, August 10, 2013

Barack Obama Pledges Greater Surveillance Transparency

BBC: President Barack Obama has promised "appropriate reforms" to guarantee greater oversight of controversial US surveillance programmes

At a White House news conference, he proposed "safeguards against abuse", including amending legislation on the collection of telephone data.

Mr Obama also urged appointing a lawyer to challenge the government at the nation's secretive surveillance court.

He has been defending the programmes since they were leaked in June.

Snowden 'no patriot'

Mr Obama said on Friday that the US "can and must be more transparent" about its snooping on phone and internet data.

"Given the history of abuse by governments, it's right to ask questions about surveillance, particularly as technology is reshaping every aspect of our lives," he told reporters.

"It's not enough for me as president to have confidence in these programmes," Mr Obama added. "The American people need to have confidence as well." (+ video) » | Saturday, August 10, 2013

Millions Face Higher Bills under Plans for Compulsory Water Meters

THE DAILY TELEGRAPH: Millions of families face higher bills under proposals to fit homes with compulsory water meters, after ministers ruled that reservoirs are at risk of running dry

Water companies across a third of the country will be required to consider fitting all properties in their areas with a water meter and billing customers for every drop they use.

Under the order, approved this week by Owen Paterson, the Environment Secretary, some family water bills could double.

It follows warnings from the Government’s environment specialists that climate change and England’s growing population will put the future supply of water in reservoirs and rivers under “serious stress”.

Householders are already suffering higher water bills, especially in parts of the country at risk of drought. In some parts of southern England where meters are fitted, annual bills have increased by hundreds of pounds.

Ministers have ordered nine of the 24 regional water companies in England and Wales to consider compulsory metering in all the homes they serve. Read on and comment » | Tim Ross, Political Correspondent | Friday, August 09, 2013

» | Freitag, 09. August 2013

Switzerland Apologises to Oprah Winfrey over Handbag Incident

THE DAILY TELEGRAPH: Switzerland's national tourism office has apologised to Oprah Winfrey over an incident involving a handbag

The media mogul, who is one of the world's richest women, told the US TV programme "Entertainment Tonight" that a shop assistant in Zurich refused to show her a handbag because it was "too expensive" for her.

Forbes magazine estimates that Winfrey earned $77 million in the year ending in June.

A spokeswoman for the Swiss tourism office, Daniela Baer, told The Associated Press on Friday "we are very sorry for what happened to her".

The tourism office also posted an apology on Twitter, saying "this person acted terribly wrong".

Winfrey told fellow US talk show host Larry King on internet channel ora.tv: "I'm in a store, a name-brand store. I'm by myself, absolutely nobody else with me. And I say to the woman, 'I would like to see that bag on the shelf'.

"And she says, 'No, that one's too expensive. I'll show you this one'," said Winfrey.

Trudie Goetz, head of the Swiss luxury chain Trois Pommes, denied her saleswoman had ever sought to stop Winfrey buying the bag.

"Everyone wants to sell a crocodile bag," Goetz told AFP. "It's a misunderstanding," she said, adding that the saleswoman always put the customer first and tried to be "too kind". » | Agencies | Friday, August 09, 2013

Zanzibar Acid Attack: Finger Pointed at Radical Islamic Group as Five Questioned over Assault on British Teenager

THE DAILY TELEGRAPH: Five men are being questioned by police over the acid attack on two British charity volunteers in Zanzibar as suspicion grew that a radical Islamic group may have inspired the assault

Religious leaders on the Indian Ocean island believe the two men who threw acid over teenagers Kirstie Trup and Katie Gee may be followers of Uamsho, which wants Zanzibar to become independent of mainland Tanzania and impose stricter Muslim rules.

In the past year there have been attacks on Muslim and Catholic leaders on the island, including an acid attack and a fatal shooting. All of the men were detained late on Thursday and in the early hours of Friday in Stone Town, the capital of Zanzibar.

The two women, both aged 18 and from north London, were expected back in the UK at lunchtime today after being evacuated from Tanzania on a specially-chartered private medical evacuation flight.

“There are five people we have, all men, who we are interrogating over this matter this morning,” said Mkadam Khamis, regional police commissioner in Zanzibar. » | Mike Pflanz, Stone Town, Zanzibar, Gordon Rayner and Victoria Ward | Friday, August 09, 2013

Saif al-Islam Gaddafi's Lawyer Calls for UK Intervention over Execution Fears

THE GUARDIAN: William Hague criticised by UK barrister for failing to back ICC ruling ordering Libya to hand over dictator's son to Hague court

The British lawyer representing Saif al-Islam Gaddafi has called on the UK to intervene on his client's behalf amid fears that the son of the former Libyan dictator will be sentenced to death in a trial expected later in August.

In a letter to the foreign secretary, John Jones QC urged the government to condemn Libya's refusal to hand over his client to the international criminal court to face charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity.

Tripoli has so far refused to comply with the ICC's order that Gaddafi be sent to The Hague, in the Netherlands, and said repeatedly it would hold its own trial.

Last week a court in Misrata handed down the death sentence to Libya's former education minister Ahmed Ibrahim, and Jones fears that Gaddafi, 41, may share the same fate. » | Chris Stephen in Tripoli | Thursday, August 08, 2013

Oprah Winfrey 'Victim Of Racism' In Swiss Shop

YAHOO!: Oprah Winfrey has said she recently became a victim of racism when a shop assistant in Switzerland refused to show her a £24,477 handbag saying it would be "too expensive" for her.

The US chat show host, who is one of the richest women in the world, was in Zurich for Tina Turner’s wedding when she decided to go shopping alone.

Winfrey told Entertainment Tonight: "I was in Zurich the other day, in a store whose name I will not mention. I didn't have my eyelashes on, but I was in full Oprah Winfrey gear. I had my little Donna Karan skirt and my little sandals. But obviously The Oprah Winfrey Show is not shown in Zurich.

"I go into a store and I say to the woman, 'Excuse me, may I see the bag right above your head?' and she says to me, 'No. It's too expensive.'"

The bag was apparently in the shop window behind a security wall.

When Winfrey insisted again, the woman replied: "No, no you don’t want to see that one, you want to see this one because that one will cost too much. You will not be able to afford that."

The assistant then started to show the media owner smaller bags before she asked for a third time and was refused again.

"She said, 'Oh I don’t want to hurt your feelings' and I said, 'Ok thank you so much you’re probably right I can’t afford it.'" said the 59-year-old.

Winfrey, who is the world's only African-American billionaire, then walked out of the shop calmly. » | Sky News | Friday, August 09, 2013

David Cameron on Jesus, Pancakes and Sunday Mornings

THE DAILY TELEGRAPH: David Cameron has described his faith as "not a bad handbook" for life but admitted he is unwilling to follow the example of Jesus to give all his possessions to the poor.

For a man who lives in No. 10 Downing Street, has two multi-million pound homes and an upbringing steeped in privilege, it was the one question which stopped him in his tracks.

"What would your response to Jesus be on his instruction to us to sell all our possessions and give the proceeds to the poor," David Cameron was asked during a question-and-answer session in Darwen near Blackburn.

Mr Cameron, who once likened his faith to the patchy reception of Magic FM in the Chilterns, found himself straying into territory which his predecessors have avoided at all costs: God.

The Prime Minister disclosed that he thinks the bible is "not a bad handbook" for life but admitted it would be "a little bit more difficult" to follow the scriptures to the letter and surrender his belongings.

He said: "I'm a Christian and I'm an active member of the Church of England, and like all Christians I think I sometimes struggle with some of the sayings and some of the instructions. » | Steven Swinford and Peter Dominiczak | Thursday, August 08, 2013
