Inside ISIS' Threat to Baghdad
Austria Teenage Girl Jihadis 'Want to Come Home’ from Isil
Samra Kesinovic, 17, and Sabina Selimovic, 15, had been dubbed poster girls for the jihadist groups after fleeing to Raqqa in central Syria. They have since married foreign fighters in the city and become pregnant.
But the city’s strict Islamic lifestyle has turned sour for the girls, who want to return to Europe.
They have contacted their loved ones and told them they are sick of living with the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (Isil) jihadis.
But they also said they don’t feel they can flee from their unwanted new life because too many people now associate them with Isil.
Austrian officials have said the girls have discussed going back home but that the country’s current laws were blocking their return. » | Damien McElroy | Friday, October 10, 2014

Salman Rushdie Condemns 'Hate-filled Rhetoric' of Islamic Fanaticism
THE DAILY TELEGRAPH: Salman Rushdie says all religions have their extremists but "the overwhelming weight of the problem lies in the world of Islam"
Accusations of 'Islamophobia' are being levelled at anyone who dares to speak out against the "hate-filled rhetoric" of Islamic fanaticism, Salman Rushdie has claimed in a speech condemning Isil and "this new age of religious mayhem".
Rushdie voiced his fears that the language of "jihadi-cool" is seducing young British Muslims, many via Twitter and YouTube, into joining the "decapitating barbarianism" of Isil, the group also referred to as Islamic State or Isis.

Ben Affleck in Passionate Defence of Islam on Bill Maher Show
Ben Affleck appeared on HBO's television show Real Time with Bill Maher to promote his latest film, Gone Girl |
Ben Affleck, the Oscar-winning actor and director, has launched a ferocious defence of Islam, after becoming involved in a heated argument when he appeared on an American chat show.
Affleck, the star of Good Will Hunting and director of Argo, appeared on HBO’s television show Real Time with Bill Maher to promote his latest film, Gone Girl.
But instead of talking about the film, the 42-year-old found himself in a furious discussion with both Maher and Sam Harris, the author of a series of books on religion.
Maher, an outspoken atheist and critic of Islam, said last week in his show that “vast numbers of Muslims around the world believe that humans deserve to die for merely holding a different idea, or drawing a cartoon, or writing a book, or eloping with the wrong person.”
He said: “Not only does the Muslim world have something in common with ISIS, it has too much in common with ISIS.” » | Harriet Alexander | Sunday, October 05, 2014

Peter Kassig: Idealistic Aid Worker Who Converted to Islam in Captivity
THE DAILY TELEGRAPH: Parents of former US Army Ranger, the latest Western hostage to be threatened with murder by Isil extremists, says "Our hearts ache for you to be granted your freedom"
Peter Kassig, the latest hostage to be threatened with murder by Islamist extremists, is an American veteran who served in Iraq and whose decision to convert to Islam in captivity has so far failed to save his life.
Mr Kassig, 26, is shown kneeling on the ground in an orange jumpsuit at the end of footage showing the murder of Alan Henning, a British aid worker.
A masked member of the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (Isil) says he will become the fifth Westerner to be killed if the US-led coalition does not halt its bombing campaign in Iraq and Syria.
Yet like Mr Henning, who was kidnapped delivering aid to Syrians, Mr Kassig's path to the Middle East suggests Isil's propaganda machine will have to to gloss over his humanitarian work in the region. And it will also have to contend with his desire to learn more about the Middle East and conversion to Islam. » | Rob Crilly, New York, and Josie Ensor | Saturday, October 04, 2014

British Jihadist Calls for Terror Attacks in UK
A British-accented jihadist has released a video urging Muslim men in the UK to rise up and "cause terror in the hearts" of the British people |
A British-accented jihadist has released a video urging Muslim men in UK to rise up and "cause terror in the hearts" of the British people.
The unidentified fighter calls David Cameron "a despicable swine" and challenges him to send British ground troops against the Islamic State so the jihadists can "send them back one-by-one in coffins".
"You're fighting people who love death more than you love life," the jihadist says.
Unlike the masked British man featured in the beheading videos of two American journalists and a British aid worker, the man in the most-recent video leaves his face defiantly uncovered. » | Raf Sanchez, Washington | Friday, October 03, 2014

British Isis Fighter Calls David Cameron a ‘Despicable Swine’ in Online Video
A still from the Isis propaganda video in which an apparent British Islamic State fighter calls the prime minister a 'despicable swine'. |
An apparent British Islamic State (Isis) fighter has appeared unmasked in a video posted online in which he calls the prime minister, David Cameron, a “despicable swine”.
Dressed in camouflage fatigues and with a bandaged right arm, the bespectacled man challenges western governments to “send all your forces on the ground” in the high-quality footage.
Sitting in front of a wall with an AK-47 rifle propped up beside him, he said: “This is a message to that despicable swine David Cameron. You along with all the other western governments have decided to bomb the Islamic State.
“If you were real men, you would send all your forces down on the ground. You would not bomb us from the sky – you would send them all on the ground fighting us one by one. But you know in the hearts of your men, they’re cowards.” » | Jamie Orme | Saturday, October 04, 2014
