Michael Lambert: Failing Home Secretary Finds a New Minority to Victimise

Another great and truthful video. It’s all very depressing stuff, though. But how could it be otherwise? This is all largely self-inflicted pain. Pain brought about by xenophobes, Europhobes, zealots, pig-headed people on the far right and ideologues. The rest of us are having to pay a very high price for their determination to drag this country out of the greatest, most successful single market in the world, the Single Market.

The result of all this has been for the UK to lose power and influence in the world. Further, that our living standards are now in terminal decline is going to be a constant source of embarrassment to us all. Of course, the bigots that brought this dreadful state of affairs upon us are sitting pretty. They are all not only very rich but are also being paid a king’s ransom for screwing up the country.

Before us are difficult times. We can look forward to little comfort or cheer. And to think that before that ridiculous Brexit, this country’s economy was doing pretty well. Clearly the ne’er-do-wells at the top had not heard of the old saying, ‘If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.’ – © Mark Alexander

Tucker Carlson Begs Advertisers To Stay, Declaring “I Like Immigrants!”

Tucker Carlson went on an angry tirade on Friday evening about immigrants, saying that they make American “poorer, dirtier, and more divided.” This incredibly racist statement has caused advertisers to flee his program, but now he’s begging them to stay by proclaiming that he actually loves immigrants and that he believes the caravan travelers all have good intentions. This is too little, too late, as Ring of Fire’s Farron Cousins explains.

In Move Recalling Nazi-Era Policies, Trump to Create Office to Track Crimes Committed by Immigrants

During President Trump’s speech to the joint session of Congress last night, he announced plans to create a new office called VOICE—that’s Victims of Immigration Crime Engagement. Trump has previously directed the Department of Homeland Security to publish a list of crimes committed by immigrants—which some historians have compared to Germany’s Nazi-era policy of publishing lists of crimes committed by Jews. We air Trump’s comment and hear from Andrea Pitzer, author of the upcoming book, "One Long Night: A Global History of Concentration Camps."

Germany: 'We Are Importing Religious Conflict,' Says Prominent Sociologist

Hans-Georg Soeffner is a German sociologist
DEUTSCHE WELLE: German sociologist H.G. Soeffner makes the case for a quick integration of immigrants in Germany. If the opportunity is missed, serious cultural conflicts may arise. Social cohesion does not occur on a cultural level.

Hans Georg Soeffner: Yes, on one hand, it does worry me because we did actually have a chance of handling the number. But the German states and the German federal government are lagging far behind when it comes to addressing this matter. We've known that the large influx of refugees would come and that the numbers would increase. I am exasperated over the slow pace of the German government's activities.

People should be aware of the fact that the Federal Republic of Germany was the country that had the greatest number of immigrants in 1945 - more than former colonial states, like France and Great Britain. Germany was the most diverse country at the time and it had to deal with a large influx of refugees, mass exodus, masses of immigrants and to add to it all, the first wave of so-called guest workers. Until 2000, 23 million people came to Germany from other countries. At the same time, 17 million emigrated. We're constantly reshuffling and things had been going relatively well until now. But at the moment, I am under the impression that no one really knows how much planning is involved. » | Kersten Knip / gro | Sunday, 30. August 2015

Benefits 'To Be Stripped from Immigrants Who Cannot Speak English'

THE SUNDAY TELEGRAPH: David Cameron intends to make the cuts in order to slash the country’s welfare bill, according to reports

Benefits will be stripped from immigrants who cannot speak English, it has been reported.

David Cameron intends to make the cuts in order to slash the country’s welfare bill, according to the Mail on Sunday.

The Prime Minister reportedly wants to stop printing welfare literature in foreign languages and prevent claimants using taxpayer-funded translators at benefits offices.

According to the newspaper the measures, which were due to be announced on Monday, have been delayed following a row with Nick Clegg, the Deputy Prime Minister.

It is hoped the scrapping of foreign-language documentation explaining how to claim benefits will make it harder for immigrants to make use of the UK’s benefits system, while encouraging those already in the country to learn English. The measures would also save the money spent on translators. » | James Edgar | Sunday, January 19, 2014

Amsterdam of Immigrants: Sharing the Motherland (RT Documentary, July 2012)

Amsterdam could compete with New York for the title of modern Babylon. More than 200 ethnic groups live here. The whole of post-war Holland has been working hard to build the image of Europe's most tolerant country -- but what has been the result? Regions of the country are populated completely by people not of Dutch origin. Some of them want to accept the Dutch culture, language, and way of life; others are keeping their own traditions and languages. Census 2011: The Areas Where English Is Not Spoken

THE DAILY TELEGRAPH: Up to a quarter of households in parts of London have no one who speaks English as their main language, according to figures contained in the census.

In a string of boroughs across the capital, between 20 and 25 per cent of all families do not have anyone who regularly speaks the language and in thousands of others only children do so.

Findings released by the Office for National Statistics earlier this week showed a transformation in the make-up of British society over the last decade, with the number of foreign-born residents rising by 50 per cent.

In London itself less than half the population described themselves as white in the national headcount conducted last year.

Headline figures showed that there are around a million households in which no one speaks English as a “main language” – just over four per cent of the total.

But a detailed breakdown of the figures published with alongside the main census data show that in some areas the proportion is more than five times this level. » | John Bingham, Social Affairs Editor | Wednesday, December 12, 2012

Obama's Lead Over Romney Among Latinos Widening

LOS ANGELES TIMES: President Obama's advantage among Latino voters is getting larger, a new poll suggests, even as Mitt Romney's campaign released what it said was its ninth ad in Spanish.

The poll by Latino Decisions, released Wednesday, showed support for Obama rising to 70% of registered Latino voters, compared with 22% for Romney. If that margin held until the election, it could play a significant role in battleground states with sizable Latino populations, such as Florida, Nevada and Colorado.

Romney isn't ceding the Latino vote, though. He has used Florida Sen. Marco Rubio as a surrogate, and has not discouraged speculation that Rubio could be a vice presidential pick. And his latest Spanish-language ad features his son, Craig, who learned fluent Spanish as a missionary, and makes mention of something Mitt Romney rarely speaks about: the fact that his father, George Romney, was born in.Mexico. » | Mitchell Landsberg | Wednesday, July 18, 2012

Rise of Neo-Nazi Golden Dawn Party Leads to Spate of Immigrant Attacks in Greece

THE DAILY TELEGRAPH: The rise of Greece's far-Right Golden Dawn party has led to a spate of vicious attacks against immigrants that it is feared will only increase after a new election is held on Sunday.

The neo-Nazi group has been blamed for numerous violent incidents since the May 6 vote, when it stunned the whole of Europe by winning 6.97 per cent of the vote and 20 seats in parliament amid deep anxiety about recession, unemployment and high levels of illegal immigration.

Polling data seen by the Daily Telegraph shows that Golden Dawn is on course to perform just as well or even better in the new election, which was called after the first failed to produce a government.

Immigrants groups have said that attacks in Athens have risen in recent weeks, backing up an increase in anecdotal reporting, and fear that once established in parliament the party's black t-shirted vigilantes will feel further emboldened in their campaign of intimidation.

Reza Gholami, the head of association for Afghan immigrants, said: "There are daily beatings. Most incidents are not known because immigrants do not notify authorities. They are afraid for their lives or don't have legal papers or lack the funds to pay the cost of a law suit."

There have been accusations of police bias after it emerged that 50 percent of Athens police officers voted for Golden Dawn. Suspected perpetrators are often arrested but not charged.

In the latest reported attack, a 28-year-old illegal Egyptian immigrant was beaten by men armed with clubs and iron bars as he slept on his roof to escape a summer heat wave. » | Alex Spillius, Athens | Wednesday, June 13, 2012

Unemployment Soars in Paris banlieues

Immigration and the economy have become central issues in the French presidential election. For the youth in the largely immigrant poor neighbourhoods outside Paris, known as banlieues, an unemployment rate four times the national average has brought both issues to a head. Al Jazeera's Charlie Kaufman reports from Paris.

Nicolas Sarkozy Appeals to Far-Right Saying 'Too Many Immigrants' in France

THE DAILY TELEGRAPH: Nicolas Sarkozy pinned his dwindling hopes of re-election on Tuesday night on wooing the far-Right electorate, saying there are "too many immigrants in France" and that their integration is increasingly failing.

With support for the incumbent conservative ebbing and the victory of Socialist candidate François Hollande looking surer by the day, Mr Sarkozy made a series of proposals aimed at wooing back National Front sympathisers who voted for him en masse in 2007 but have since become disillusioned.

"Our system of integration is working more and more badly, because we have too many foreigners on our territory and we can no longer manage to find them accommodation, a job, a school," Mr Sarkozy said.

The president has clearly veered Right since formally announcing his re-election campaign two weeks ago, and FN candidate Marine Le Pen has accused him of liberally borrowing from her manifesto.

In an almost two-and-a-half hour television grilling, a combative Mr Sarkozy insisted that while immigration could remain "a boon" for France in many areas, it would have to toughen residency qualifications for newcomers.

"Over the five year term I think that to restart the process of integration in good conditions, we must divide by two the number of people that we welcome, that's to say to pass from 180,000 per year to 100,000," he said. » | Henry Samuel, Paris | Tuesday, March 06, 2012
