The Thinking Atheist: Arrested for Offending Islam (with Armin Navabi)
These religious freaks are ridiculous! Who gives a damn about their prophets? WBFC? Muslims say there’s no compulsion in their religion. Like hell there isn’t!
MBS in Saudi Arabia is very concerned about projecting Islam’s image in a modern light. If that is truly the case, he needs to put a stop — A STOP — to the torture, imprisonment and persecution of gays and atheists in Saudi Arabia. Until he does that, all his programmes of modernisation will be vacuous and empty. Mere cosmetics. Window dressing. If Islam is such a compassionate religion, show it! Don’t tell it; show it! – © Mark Alexander

Seth Andrews: The Ultimate Question
This is an excellent video: a must watch in my opinion. However, be warned: It is very controversial, especially for a believer that entertains no doubt; it also has just a little strong language in it. Viewer discretion is therefore advised. It is not suitable for children. For those willing to be challenged, enjoy this masterclass in how to be an iconoclast! It is well worth your time. Thank you Seth Andrews!– © Mark Alexander

Seth Andrews: “Christianity Made Me Talk Like an Idiot”
Viewer discretion is strongly advised. This is not suitable for children. By the way, I post this not as an atheist myself, but as someone who has an open, enquiring mind. I find Seth Andrews rather inspirational, and very often funny too. He frequently highlights the absurdities of the beliefs of many. Enjoy! I should add, however, that if you are at all sensitive or unsure of your beliefs, this video is probably not for you, especially because of its irreverence. – Mark

Seth Andrews : “Awesome Without Allah”
Here’s some food for thought for you! I am not plugging atheism, by the way; so, please don’t jump to any conclusions. However, I do have an open mind; so I certainly have periods of doubt myself. Especially when I hear fundamentalists of every strip spouting forth. They sound so simplistic to me. They are so certain about things we simply cannot be certain about.
Because religion is nothing more than belief, and belief is just that: belief; we cannot ever be certain about God/Allah/Yahweh, whatever you call him. We shall have to wait until we pass on to know for sure.
So far, I do still have a belief in God, even though its strength waxes and wanes – just like the moon! But then that is normal for Christians.
What I do know is this: Christian principles are good principles to live by. However, in my experience, only the few actually manage to do so. Many call themselves Christians; only the few pass muster. We are all in need of trying harder.
The real Christians I have met in life are the ones that talk about it the least. They just get on and live by their principles – quietly.
I find Seth Andrews’ atheism very interesting; and in actual fact, I concur with much of what he says. I know from previous videos I have watched of his that Christopher Hitchens helped him along on his path to atheism.
Interesting.

Richard Dawkins on Religion
May 16, 2013 • An interview with renowned atheist Richard Dawkins on whether religion is a force for good or evil.
Fanaticism, fundamentalism, superstition and ignorance. Religion is getting a bad press these days. Much of the conflict in the world, from the Middle East to Nigeria and Myanmar, is often blamed on religion.
But how are things from a different perspective? Defenders of religion claim Adolf Hitler was an atheist. Communism under Joseph Stalin, Pol Pot or Mao Zedong banned religion, but also massacred millions. And science brought incredible and amazing advances, but also pollution and the atomic bomb.
A critic of religious dogmatism, Professor Richard Dawkins revolutionised genetics in 1976 with the publication of The Selfish Gene, which explained how evolution takes place at the genetic level. He has since written 12 more bestsellers, including The God Delusion which sold millions of copies, was translated into more than 30 languages, and catapulted him to the position of the world's foremost atheist.
Mehdi Hasan interviews evolutionary biologist Richard Dawkins at the Oxford Union and asks: Is religion a force for good or evil? Can it co-exist with science? Is science the new religion? And why if god does not exist, is religion so persistent?

The New Chief Chaplain at Harvard? An Atheist.
THE NEW YORK TIMES: The elevation of Greg Epstein, author of “Good Without God,” reflects a broader trend of young people who increasingly identify as spiritual but religiously nonaffiliated

The Puritan colonists who settled in New England in the 1630s had a nagging concern about the churches they were building: How would they ensure that the clergymen would be literate? Their answer was Harvard University, a school that was established to educate the ministry and adopted the motto “Truth for Christ and the Church.” It was named after a pastor, John Harvard, and it would be more than 70 years before the school had a president who was not a clergyman.
Nearly four centuries later, Harvard’s organization of chaplains has elected as its next president an atheist named Greg Epstein, who takes on the job this week.
Mr. Epstein, 44, author of the book “Good Without God,” is a seemingly unusual choice for the role. He will coordinate the activities of more than 40 university chaplains, who lead the Christian, Jewish, Hindu, Buddhist and other religious communities on campus. Yet many Harvard students — some raised in families of faith, others never quite certain how to label their religious identities — attest to the influence that Mr. Epstein has had on their spiritual lives.
“There is a rising group of people who no longer identify with any religious tradition but still experience a real need for conversation and support around what it means to be a good human and live an ethical life,” said Mr. Epstein, who was raised in a Jewish household and has been Harvard’s humanist chaplain since 2005, teaching students about the progressive movement that centers people’s relationships with one another instead of with God. » | Emma Goldberg | Thursday, August 26, 2021
