White Muslim Convert Defies Judge as He Is Jailed for Terror Offences

THE INDEPENDENT: When ordered to stand, he refused saying 'I don't wish to stand up because I believe ruling and judgement is only for Allah'

Richard Dart, the middle class boy from Dorset who turned into an Islamic extremist, remained defiant to the bitter end as a judge gave him an extended jail sentence for being a dangerous terrorist today.

The 30-year-old son of teachers from Weymouth, who shocked his family when he became a militant Muslim, sat in the dock, clad in a skull cap and traditional dress, as he was sentenced after pleading guilty to preparing for acts of terrorism.

When ordered to rise by Mr Justice Simon, he refused, proclaiming: "I don't wish to stand up because I believe ruling and judgement is only for Allah.". As he was led away to start a sentence of 11 years, he nodded to a lone Islamic young man in the public gallery, his family nowhere to be seen. » | Terri Judd | Thursday, April 35, 2013

Former BBC Security Guard Who Converted to Islam Admits Terror Plot to Attack Wootton Bassett and 'MI5 or MI6 Heads'

MAIL ONLINE: Richard Dart, Imran Mahmood, and Jahangir Alom, plead guilty at Old Bailey / Admit preparing for terrorism or assisting another in terrorism, between July 2010 and July 2012 / Trio travelled to Pakistan for terror training and helped others do the same / Conversations reveal targets were Wootton Bassett and secret services

A former BBC security guard today admitted playing a part in a two-year terror plot, which included a possible attack on Wootton Bassett, the small town in Wiltshire used for military funerals.

White Muslim convert Richard Dart, 29, also planned to wipe out members of the security services including 'MI5 or MI6 heads' after receiving training at Pakistani terror camps.

Dart, who calls himself Salahuddin Al Britani, and co-conspirators Imran Mahmood, 21, and Jahangir Alom, 26, have all pleaded guilty to preparing for acts of terrorism during a brief hearing at the Old Bailey.

The charges said they travelled to Pakistan for terror training, travelled abroad to commit acts of terrorism and provided information about travel to Pakistan, terrorism training and operational security while there.

Detectives had recovered computer conversations between Dart and Mahmood identifying one target as Wootton Bassett, whose streets are always lined with mourners when Britain's war-dead are flown back into the UK.

One conversation between the pair went as follows: 'Yes, yes Wootton Bassett, if not that then all combatants if it comes down to it, it is that or even to just deal with a few MI5, MI6 heads.'

Dart, the son of teachers from Dorset, had appeared in a BBC Three documentary made by his stepbrother after he converted to Islam by radical cleric Anjem Choudary. Read on and comment » | Sam Adams and Martin Robinson | Friday, March 15, 2013

Muslim Convert 'Discussed Targeting Wootton Bassett'

THE DAILY TELEGRAPH: A white Muslim convert accused of a terrorism offence discussed targeting Royal Wootton Bassett and officers from MI5 and MI6, a court heard today.

White Muslim convert, Richard Dart, 29, is charged along with two other men with preparing for acts of terrorism over a two-year period by travelling to Pakistan for training and providing information for others about how to do the same.

Westminister magistrates’ court heard claims that Dart talked about possible targets, including Royal Wootton Bassett, where mourners paid their respects to British troops killed in Afghanistan from 2007 until September last year.

Bearded Dart, who wore green Islamic robes under a black fleece jacket, appeared in a BBC documentary last year about his conversion to Islam made by his own brother. » | Sam Marsden | Thursday, July 19, 2012

White Muslim One Of Six Arrested Over ‘Terror Plot'

THE DAILY TELEGRAPH: White Muslim convert Richard Dart and a former police community support officer were among six people arrested for allegedly plotting a terror attack in Britain.

Richard Dart, who was radicalised by the cleric Anjem Choudary, was held following police raids in east and west London.

A former PCSO and two of his brothers, who were living just over a mile from the Olympic site in Stratford, were also among those detained during the police and MI5 operation to prevent a suspected terror assault.

One of the brothers was Tasered by officers. Counter-terrorism police had first searched their home last November.

The Daily Telegraph understands the police moved over fears that a group had obtained a sword which could potentially be used in a terrorist attack.

Mr Dart, 29, the son of Dorset teachers, featured in a BBC documentary last year filmed by his own brother about his conversion. During the film, called My Brother the Islamist, he was seen protesting about British soldiers in Afghanistan and accused them of being “murderers”.

He also called for Sharia law to be established in Britain, as well as saying that one of his friends used to be “in the police”, but is not any more. Mr Dart has changed his name to Salahuddin al Britani. Salahuddin comes from the medieval leader who drove King Richard I from Jerusalem during the Crusades. » | Tom Whitehead, Martin Evans and Sam Marsden | Thursday, July 05, 2012
