Alleged Killer of Tourist in Paris Attack Had Pledged Allegiance to Islamic State

THE GUARDIAN: Suspect detained after German-Filipino man killed and two – one British and one French – injured near Eiffel Tower

A 26-year-old man suspected of killing a German-Filipino tourist and wounding two others near the Eiffel Tower in Paris on Saturday night had pledged allegiance to the Islamic State in a video released online.

The French anti-terrorism prosecutor, Jean-François Ricard, said the French suspect, named as Armand Rajabpour-Miyandoab, “had recorded a video before committing the act”, in which he spoke in Arabic, swore allegiance to Islamic State and supported its jihadists in different areas from Africa to Iraq, Syria and Pakistan.

The video was posted online on his account on the social network X, which also showed numerous posts on Hamas, Gaza and Palestine. The account was started at the beginning of October. » | Angelique Chrisafis in Paris | Sunday, December 3, 2023

We do not have to tolerate this disgusting, brutal, barbaric behaviour. Furthermore, we must not allow these throwbacks from a far less enlightened age to take us back to the Dark Ages!

If our Western way of life doesn’t suit these people, send them back to their countries of origin – with despatch! And if the perpetrators of these heinous crimes were born in the West, re-educate them! There are ways and means of re-educating them.

Aren’t we all, by now, tired of this recalcitrant behaviour? And do we value our Western achievements so little that we are unprepared to fight to maintain them?

Our politicians are paid enough to do their jobs properly. It is high time they did them; and it is high time that they found the courage to say what is necessary to keep us, the people, safe. Forget ‘political correctness’; instead, behave politically correctly! Moreover, stop sweating the little things like whether a young man enjoys smoking a cigarette, or not; rather, start concentrating on the important things to maintain our civilization. – © Mark Alexander

German Tourist Killed and Two Others Injured in Central Paris Attack

GUARDIAN EUROPE: Police arrest a man known to authorities as a radical Islamist after passersby attacked near Eiffel Tower

A man who had served a prison sentence for planning a radical Islamist attack and who was undergoing psychiatric treatment allegedly stabbed a German tourist to death and wounded two others in a neighbourhood near Paris’s Eiffel tower on Saturday night.

The attack took place shortly after 9pm near the Bir Hakeim bridge in an area popular with tourists. France is on its highest alert for attacks against the background of the war between Israel and Hamas.

The alleged attacker first targeted a German couple near the bridge, fatally stabbing a young German man. A passing taxi driver intervened to stop him, but the suspect ran away across the bridge to the other side of the River Seine, attacking two more people and injuring one person with a hammer. Police pursued him and used a stun gun to stop him. He was being questioned by anti-terrorism police on Sunday morning. » | Angelique Chrisafis in Paris | Sunday, December 3, 2023

The "Religion of Peace" strikes again! Dear oh dear! Another innocent person has had to lose his life because our leaders have neither spine nor spunk! When are our Western leaders going to grow a pair? And when are they going to learn the true nature of Islam? Leaders, the West over, have for years been peddling the false notion that Islam is a religion of peace. It is NOT! Islam is a muscular, proselytizing, combative religion determined to take over the world, in order to Islamize it. Muslims view the whole world in TWO PARTS: the House of Islam, in Arabic, Dar ul Islam (دار الإسلام) and the House of War, Dar ul Harb, the House of War (دار الحرب).

There can be peace (Pax Islamica) only when the areas of the world now in the House of War have been defeated and drawn into the House of Islam. All will then have submitted to the will of Allah, will have become Muslims. Those who haven’t (yet) submitted to the will of Allah, i.e. become Muslims, will be forced to live as second-class citizens, paying the Jizyah (الجزية), in return for which the infidel is offered protection, but NOT given full rights as a citizen,

These so-called Islamists that launch these cruel attacks on innocent Westerners — unclean infidels in their eyes! — buy into this mediæval thinking. It’s a mindset — a mindset which will be extremely difficult to change. At least not without brainwashing or maybe Evangelization!

In this article, it states that the perpetrator is undergoing psychiatric treatment. It is NOT a psychiatrist that such people need. What they need is deportation. They don’t belong in the civilized West. Furthermore, Westerners need to be protected from such people. Protection from this deranged behaviour is the very least that Westerners deserve. Don’t waste taxpayers’ money on psychiatric treatment or even jail terms. Instead, kick them out of the West forever! This problem is growing, and it calls for decisive leadership. Let us solve this problem once and for all! – © Mark Alexander

With Surge in Attacks, Militants Begin New Era of Bloodshed in Pakistan

THE NEW YORK TIMES: For nearly a decade, the country had seemingly broken the cycle of violence, but extremist groups have bounced back since the Taliban regained control in neighboring Afghanistan.

It was a bloody reminder that the dark days of extremist violence appeared to have returned to Pakistan: a suicide attack on a religious festival in the country’s southwest this past week that left around 60 people dead.

For nearly a decade, Pakistan had seemingly broken the cycle of such deadly attacks. In 2014, the country’s security forces carried out a large-scale military operation in the tribal areas near Afghanistan, forcing militants across the border and returning a relative peace to the restive frontier region.

But since the Taliban seized power in neighboring Afghanistan in August 2021, offering some groups safe haven on Afghan soil and starting a crackdown on others that pushed their fighters into neighboring Pakistan, the violence has roared back. The number of terrorist attacks in Pakistan rose by around 50 percent during the Taliban’s first year in power, compared with the year before, according to the Pak Institute for Peace Studies, which monitors extremist violence and is based in Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan.

This year, the pace of attacks have continued to rise. The attacks themselves have also become bolder, reviving the fears of a terrorism-scared nation. In January, a suicide bombing at a heavily guarded mosque killed more than 100 people. A month later, militants struck the heart of Pakistan’s largest city, Karachi, waging an hourslong siege at the police headquarters. Another suicide blast, at a political rally, killed more than 50 people in July.

In the latest massacre, on Friday, a suicide bomber set off an explosion at a religious procession that left carnage in the street. No group has claimed responsibility yet. » | Christina Goldbaum and Zia ur-Rehman | Tuesday, October 3, 2023

French Trial Begins in Police Couple Killings Linked to Extremists

VOICE OF AMERICA: LYON, FRANCE — It wasn’t the deadliest attack in Europe linked to the Islamic State group, but it was among the most disturbing: One evening in 2016, an assailant killed two police officers in their family home, in front of their 3-year-old son.

On Monday, a trial opened in a French counterterrorism court over the attack in the Paris suburb of Magnanville.
The attacker, Larossi Abballa, was shot to death by police. According to court documents, he told police negotiators that he was responding to an IS leader’s call to “kill miscreants at home with their families.”

A childhood friend of Abballa’s, Mohamed Aberouz, is on trial for complicity to terrorism-related murder, complicity to kidnapping and terrorist conspiracy. Aberouz, who says he is innocent, faces up to life in prison if convicted. » | Associated Press | Monday, September 25, 2023>br />

Abdul Nacer Benbrika: Australia Revokes Citizenship of Terror Plotter

BBC: Australia has cancelled the citizenship of an Algerian-born Muslim cleric convicted of planning a series of terror attacks in 2005.

Abdul Nacer Benbrika was jailed for 15 years in 2009 and is eligible for release from next month.

But Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton said it was "appropriate" to revoke his citizenship to protect Australians.

The move makes Benbrika the first person to be stripped of Australian citizenship while still in the country.

His lawyer has declined to comment on the government's decision, ABC News reports.

"If it's a person who's posing a significant terrorist threat to our country, then we'll do whatever is possible within Australian law to protect Australians," Mr Dutton told reporters in Brisbane.

Under Australian law, the government can only strip people of citizenship if they are dual citizens, ensuring they will not be left stateless. » | Wednesday, November 25, 2020

Three Killed in Knife Attack in French City of Nice

Three people have been killed in a knife attack at a church in the southern French city of Nice. Several others have been injured. The attacker was wounded by police and is in custody in hospital. Al Jazeera's Bernard Smith reports.

Deadly Knife Attack in Nice Is Terrorism, French Officials Say

THE NEW YORK TIMES: The assault at a church in the south of France left at least three people dead. Local officials said it bore similarities to the killing of a schoolteacher that has shaken the country.

PARIS — Less than two weeks after the beheading of a French schoolteacher, an assailant carrying a knife entered the towering neo-Gothic basilica in the southern city of Nice early Thursday and killed three people, further inflaming tensions in a country already on edge and leading the authorities to increase the terrorism threat level.

Officials in Nice described the attack as Islamist terrorism, and it was quickly followed by two similar events — including a knife-wielding assailant outside a French Consulate in Saudi Arabia — though it was not immediately clear whether the events were coordinated.

The mayor of Nice, Christian Estrosi, told reporters on Thursday that a suspect, who has not been identified, was arrested after being shot and wounded by the police. The suspect “kept repeating Allahu akbar in front of us even though he was sedated,” Mr. Estrosi said, adding this left “no doubt” about the motivation behind the attack. » | Constant Méheut and Aurelien Breeden | Thursday, October 29, 2020

Mehdi Hasan Rips Thomas Friedman’s “Nauseating” Column in NYT Praising Saudi Arabia

We get response from Al Jazeera’s Mehdi Hasan to New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman’s recent controversial column, “Saudi Arabia’s Arab Spring, at Last.” Hasan argues the piece is absurdly sympathetic to Saudi Arabia, and that Trump’s friendly relations with the country mean he “is not just a liar and a conspiracy theorist, he’s a hypocrite. He goes on about radical islamic terrorism but cozies up to Saudi Arabia, which many would argue has done more to promote ideologically and financially radical Islamic terrorism than any other country on earth.”

Inside Story - Is the War on Terror Failing?

The topic of terrorism has been at the forefront of world politics for many years. Attacks on western soil dominate the news for weeks after they happen, and the Iraq and Syria wars against ISIL is regularly centrestage on our TV screens.

The subject was on the agenda at the recent BRICS conference in China, and will debated at the upcoming UN General Assembly. This week it's catapulted back into the spotlight for an obvious reason, the 16th anniversary of 9/11.

The September 11 attacks in the United States in 2001 have largely defined U.S. foreign policy since, and affected lives throughout the world. Almost 3000 people were killed when hijackers flew planes into the twin towers of the World Trade Center in New York and the Pentagon.

And the attacks triggered a series of events including new wars, new immigration policies, and new prejudices.

What will it take to defeat terror?

Saudi Arabia Funds Terror But We Love Them (and Their Oil) Anyway

A new report says that Saudi Arabia contributes major funds to encourage extremism in the UK, but the British government is trying to cover it up. The US did the same when it was revealed that the Saudis played a big role in 9/11. Ring of Fire's Josh Gay tells you why.

UK: May Says “Things Need to Change,” Then Repeats False and Failed Analysis That Jihad Is “Perversion of Islam”

JIHAD WATCH: Theresa May says “far too much tolerance of extremism in our country,” and that “when it comes to taking on extremism and terrorism things need to change.” Then she repeats the same false and failed analysis, that the jihad “is a perversion of Islam.” Her refusal to identify the motivating ideology behind these jihad attacks means that she will never confront this enemy properly, and never deal with the real source of the incitement to violence. And so for all her tough talk, she is doomed to failure. Read on and comment » | Robert Spencer | Sunday, June 4, 2017

Denial & Obfuscation about Islam Fuels Growing Distrust - Douglas Murray

In answer to the question of how much attention to give to terrorists, Douglas Murray talks common sense about the right kind of attention, and argues that denial & obfuscation about islamic terrorism only breed more distrust of both media and government.

The other panelists were Simon Jenkins (former Times editor and Guardian columnist) and Fawaz Gerges (an expert on ISIS and Al-Qaeda). The moderator was Clarissa Ward.
