Distrurbing! Letters Threatening Genocide against Muslims and Praising Trump Sent to Multiple California Mosques

LOS ANGELES TIMES: The Council on American-Islamic Relations has called for increased police protection of local mosques after letters that threatened the genocide of Muslims and praised President-elect Donald Trump were sent to multiple California mosques this week.

The letters were sent to the Islamic Center of Long Beach and the Islamic Center of Claremont, CAIR’s greater Los Angeles chapter said in a statement. The same letter also was sent to the Evergreen Islamic Center in San Jose, according to CAIR’s San Francisco Bay Area chapter.

The handwritten letter, which was photocopied, was addressed to “the children of Satan” and called Muslims a “vile and filthy people.”

“Your day of reckoning has arrived,” the letter states, according to CAIR-LA. “There’s a new sheriff in town — President Donald Trump. He’s going to cleanse America and make it shine again. And, he’s going to start with you Muslims.” » | Hailey Brnson-Potts | Saturday, November 26, 2016

Should Muslims Be Allowed to Pray in Public Schools? Michigan Says 'Yes'

THE CHRISTIAN POST: It's illegal for Christians to pray in public school, according to the U.S. Supreme Court. But in Michigan, Muslims are being given special prayer privileges by school administrators, raising questions as about due process, equal protection, and freedom of speech for followers of the faith of America's Founding Fathers.

Stirring up the Constitutional storm, once again, is the Council on American-Islamic Relations, Michigan chapter, which has reached a "negotiated" settlement with the school board in Dearborn, a suburb of Detroit, which will give Muslim kids so-called "prayer accommodations" in Dearborn Public Schools. » | Gene J. Florida Muslim Group Wants to Educate Community about Prophet Mohammed

WUFT NEWS: One of the largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organizations in the United States launched an online education program this week to shine a more accurate light on the Prophet Mohammed.

This program is in response to the recent global backlash of the controversial and anti-Muslim film, “Innocence of Muslims.”

“We are taught in Islam to meet evil with good; the makers of this barbaric film, ‘Innocence of Muslims,’ may have intended to insult Muslims and degrade our beliefs, but they failed miserably,” said Nezar Hamze, the executive director of Council on American-Islamic Relations located in South Florida, in a press release on Thursday. “Interesting enough, hundreds of people in Florida have reached out and they want to know about the Prophet Mohammed now. We will provide educational materials and credible academia sources.”

Such resources include the 1977 film “The Message.”

“The film is old; however, the producers and directors respected the limits of the Islamic faith and still educated the viewing audience,” the press release stated.

CAIR-FL, the Florida branch of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, also released an audio narration of the “Prophetic Timeline,” an interactive timeline of the Prophet Mohammed’s life.

Their goal is to educate the American community on the history of the Prophet Mohammed. » | Sami Main | Friday, September 14, 2012

Judge Rules Nearly Finished Tennessee Mosque Doesn't Have Permit

REUTERS.COM: A judge ruled on Tuesday that a local Tennessee government failed to follow proper procedures in granting a permit for the construction of a mosque, casting doubt on the future of the Islamic place of worship which is nearly complete.

Judge Robert Corlew ruled that the Rutherford County planning commission had not given enough public notice prior to a 2010 meeting when the mosque plans were approved, effectively nullifying the building permit.

A civil rights group on Tuesday called on the U.S. Justice Department to step in if the planning commission does not act "immediately" to reissue permits for construction of the 52,000-plus-square-foot (4,830-plus-square-meter) mosque in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, about 34 miles south of Nashville.

"If you read the judge's ruling, it is clear he sought a heightened standard of public notice for an issue that involves Muslims," Ibrahim Hooper, national communications director for The Council on American-Islamic Relations. » | Tim Ghianni | NASHVILLE, Tennessee | Tuesday, May 29, 2012

REUTERS – BLOGS: Netanyahu says ceding control of Jerusalem’s sacred sites would be fatal mistake: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Monday it would be a “fatal mistake” ever to give up control over Jerusalem’s holy sites. CAIR: NY Law Firm Drops Anti-Islam Speaker Robert Spencer

THE SACRAMENTO BEE: The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) today thanked a prominent New York law firm for its decision to cancel an event featuring Robert Spencer, the leader of one of the nation's most extreme anti-Islam hate groups.

Earlier today, CAIR expressed concerns about the April 18 event at the law offices of Kramer LevinNaftalis & Frankel (Kramer Levin) in New York City.

The event, sponsored by the right-wing Middle East Forum (MEF), would have promoted Spencer's claim that Islam's Prophet Muhammad may never have existed. MEF is headed by Daniel Pipes, who is viewed by many Muslims as one of the nation's leading Islamophobes.

In a statement sent to CAIR, Kramer Levin Executive Director Nicholas J. Tortorella wrote:
"From time to time we receive requests from not for profit or community organizations to use our conference rooms for meetings or other events. While we permit our facilities to be used occasionally for these purposes, Kramer Levin can take no responsibility for the content of these events and in no way endorses any opinions that may be expressed during them. In this instance, we were not aware of the controversy surrounding the speaker at the April 18th event. Now having been alerted to the situation, we have withdrawn permission for the event to take place at our offices."
"We thank Kramer Levin for taking swift and appropriate action to disassociate itself from Robert Spencer's extremist views," said CAIR National Communications Director Ibrahim Hooper. "The firm's actions demonstrate a commitment to religious tolerance and diversity."

In 2010, Kramer Levin published an "Employment Law Update" with a section on "Accommodating Muslim Employees." That publication stated in part: "Employers must ensure that Muslim employees are protected from discrimination and are provided with reasonable accommodations for their religious practices." » | Council on American-Islamic Relations | WASHINGTON | PRNewswire-USNewswire | Thursday, March 29, 2012

US Appeals Court Blocks Oklahoma Sharia Law Ban

THE GUARDIAN: Denver court upholds judge's order that claimed Oklahoma's attempt to ban sharia law was unconstitutional

A proposed constitutional amendment that would ban Oklahoma courts from considering international or Islamic law discriminates against religions, a federal appeals court said on Tuesday, as it gave the right to a Muslim community leader to challenge its constitutionality.

The court in Denver upheld US district judge Vicki Miles-LaGrange's order blocking implementation of the amendment shortly after it was approved by 70% of Oklahoma voters in November 2010.

Muneer Awad, the executive director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations in Oklahoma, sued to block the law from taking effect, arguing that the Save Our State Amendment violated his First Amendment rights.

"This is an important reminder that the constitution is the last line of defense against a rising tide of anti-Muslim bigotry in our society, and we are pleased that the appeals court recognised that fact," Awad said. "We are also hopeful that this decision serves as a reminder to politicians wishing to score political points through fear-mongering and bigotry." » | Associated Press | Wednesday, January 11, 2012
